..err, a "friend" is considering a bike in about 3 months time. About £4000 to spend, has all the gear. Thinking 600ish. Anything stand out? (sv650 seems good for a returnee).
Tum-tee-tum. Apparently he was warned about bikes being hard to quit. Apparently...
And the tricky question of how does he tell his missus without getting a nagging? esp when he mentioned a new car next year.

If your "friend" is interested in an SV650 he could take a look at the yellow faired 2001 model in my garage that's gagging for an owner . . .

however, you - er, he - might want also to look at the BMW 650CS, Hornet, Fazer et al, which are all good intermediate bikes well within the price range - which might make the car discussion a little easier. Ahem.

You could even consider one of the older sporty bikes which would still be within your budget, like the Yamaha Thundercat or VFR. Bags of performance without being cripplingly uncomfy

Edited to add the 'cat and VFR

Had a great experience with the Thundercat YZF600R. Great engine, just a little soggy at the rear. VERY comfortable bike to ride.

I dealt with a lot of them as well. Where shall I start. 1st off MASSIVE depreciation comapred to other bikes. Sky high initial prices unless you buy mid winter when Triumph cut the prices to the bone causing used owners that massive deprecaition I was on about. Poor build quality, poor styling (suppose thats in the eye of the beholder though) poor warranty backup. Un competitive heavy and dated. Nasty bag of bolts sound to the triples (built in character my arse).
I'm sure I could come up with some more but hey whats the point as all that I have said is only 'ALLEGEDLY'

What a load of absolute bollocks - please compare new list prices of Triumphs with ANY Jap equivalent and you will see the Triumphs are considerably cheaper.

If your friend is who I think he is, then he won't be satisfied with a 600!

Get a CBR1100 and tell her it's a tourer!

Emm, er, well . . .the reality is that I'm crap at advertising , I didn't get round to putting ads anywhere else except here and Visordown and since there was no PH or VD interest, no sale. Besides, it was my first bike and I have a soft spot for it

Well my Triumph Daytona 600 was cheaper than the 600 Jap models at the time (June-ish, so not winter), has been perfectly reliable, looks great and I'd recommend one to my friends if they were in the market. It is also probably the best handling of the current 600s and I think I am right in saying that it is no heavier than the other Jap 600s. I.e. around 160-165 kilos.
