Just sold my BMW F650GS and watched it drive away - quite sad really.

I've got a bit of a short list and wonder if anyone has any advice please on these:

Ducati Multistrada
BMW either Montaulk or R1150RT or 1200GS?
Triumph Sprint
Moto Guzzi Le Mans or Tourer.

Commute about 20 miles per day plus odd trip up to Scotland nd wanted something a little different but not too

Ive heard very good things about the Multistrada and the 1200GS. A sports bike/enduro nut friend of mine test rode the 1150GS and said that it was eveything you would ever need in a road bike and would embarrass a lot of sports bikes given the right situation. The 1200GS should be even better. I have only read about the Duke; however, it gets a superb write up in most publications. Same thing as the BMW; a very good bike for everything. (Apart from knee down antics at Donington )

Only issue I can think of with the GS is the width of the bars and that they're high, i.e. at van/small lorry wing mirror height. This might make commuting awkward if you're filtering through merging traffic like the three lanes into one section I do each day. It gets pretty tight for room and the SV being narrow helps a lot in this situation. That said I see plenty of GS's on my commute. A friend recently bought an R1100S as the width of the GS's bars meant he couldn't fit the bike down the path alongside his house. He really rates it. He said Vines in Guildford (I think) would give you a weekends trial provided you cover the insurance excess on your card. Might be worth a look.

Good hunting,

Steve

Go for the Sprint - ST or RS. The RS is great value at the moment and is pretty much the same bike.
