Looking at getting a new set of gloves at the bike show, but not sure on what would be the best ones.
I need a glove that will let my hand breath as the free ones that i got when i bought the bike, stink! (I wore them for a week and they started to wiff).
But they will also need to keep my hands warm in the winter months and protected (god forbid) if i fall off.
I am willing to pay up to £75 but the cheaper the better.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks

Alpinestars make the best gloves by far (IMHO)

I've got the GP Pro's which were about £120 but you might be able to get them for a bit less at the show

I'd definately recommend them, especially the level of protection they offer.

I used to have the SP-1's. They were very good & comfortabel too, and were about £80 IIRC

Haven't got a clue sorry

You'd better pop to your local dealer to try some on. I know that my mitts weren't getting too clammy when I had them

have you tried 'Held' gloves (german)? very strong with kangaroo leather palms. Quite pricey though - around 130 quid. Fit like a glove though....

gortex is the breathable membrane...
'Goatex' is a new goat based fur liner...

Ride magazine's done summer and winter glove reviews. The current issue should mention previous product tests and you could order the relevant back issue(s).

From memory, Swift Viper was best summer (though the Alpinestars GP-things did well). Can't remember what did well for winter - one of the Belstaffs, I think.

Goretex is breathable and probably more breathable than cheaper membranes. But it's not totally breathable. So you'd be better off in a leather glove with no membrane if breathability more important than wind/water protection.

If you're after a winter glove, then often it's windchill that lets the temp go really low on your little pinkies (unless you have hands like a scaffolder..). You can either wear marigolds inside your gloves - (work very well). Or people like Hein Gericke do an 'overmitt', which isn't lined, but allows you full feel of the controls whilst providing quite a lot of chill protection. Breathable gloves won't stop your hands getting cold as they often still allow the hand to sweat which then gets frozen in the wind chill. Or you could go to somewhere like www.silvermans.co.uk (military suppliers) and get some silk glove liners (about £10 IIRC).

Ride on a track only and cold hands aren't normally a problem! No mincing about on m/ways...

Good luck.

PS breathable gloves aren't just desinged to stay fruity. If you have clean hands to start with, that will help keep the lining clean, but it's the crap you excrete in your sweat which smells eventually - so unless the goretex magically transports this to the other side of the membrane, you'll just have more expensive stinking gloves....

Also, not a good idea to keep your gloves in your lid for similar reasons.
