So my run of bad luck continues. I'm parking the bike up in London and it's pretty full in the bay. The chap two bikes away loses the left hand grip from his bars as his lifts his bike upright and promptly drops his bike into the bike next to me. It falls over and the brake lever then dents my bike's tank. Ar$e!

Very nice bloke, said "it's all my fault, I'll pay," even called me with the names and numbers of two dent repair specialists last night. Only problem, no answer from one number and the other guys didn't know how to repair a dent to a bike tank. Can anyone help me with a suitable repairer here?

Thanks,

Steve

Is it badly dented or just nudged in? I've heard of tanks being blown out with compressed air. Worth looking into before you try getting a new tank? Unless your confident this guy will replace it.

I've heard the same as EVOBARRY, although may be worth trying ebay for a secondhand one.

I can get it filled - bad news if the filler falls off with vibrations - for £140 in Surrey. I can get it sorted by Dream Machine (no filler, job done properly) for ~£185+VAT. A new tank is apparently ~£400. Gonna call the chap back tonight and ask him what he wants to do. I have a third option waiting in the wings of getting him to pay for a Bagster tank cover and bag for probably less money.

So why didnt I look at your profile first?
Its an SV. WHat colour and where on the tank is the dent? Do you have a pic? I'll take a look and if it can be done will do it for £130 + p&p (no vat). I will only take it on though if I am confident it will look presentable when finished, my work is first class hence why I wont try to make a silk purse out of a sows ear, but if it can be done i'm your man. Let me know if your interested I can be contacted at bike.doctor@ntlworld.com
Cheers
Mike
p.s highly unlikely dream machine will be able to do it without filler unless it is such a place that it can be pulled or pushed out. If it needs any paint it'll need filler. I guarantee you wont have any problems with 'filler vibrating out' if its done properly.

Steve,

Have a good look around on ebay. I bought an SV tank on there for around 50 quid (but you can't have it I'm afraid, 'cos I may well need it during the race season next year). Also, check out cheshire motorcycle salvage. They've often got tanks for sale (motorcycle, not chieftain or sherman).
