And i'm mad as ,i failed on something i had never done once throughout the whole of my training,i stalled at a junction, that was it?As soon as i pulled away it died on me,i hadn't covered one lane yet of road i was goping onto,i safely pulled bike back to junction,no cars were coming for miles, and restarted the bike remembering lifesaver again etc, instructor thinks i may have pulled away in second, and by the way it stalled i think he may be right,so,two reasons why i had it in second, one, i was talked out of a habit i had of double checking i was in first at a junction, and two the bearded little prick of an examiner kept leaving his indicators on for long periods of time would you believe(he had also crashed on a previous test?),his indicators were really shaking up my concentration as i started to think, have i missed a turn?Is there something wrong with the intercom? So im one really pissed off person.

happens to the best of us I'm afraid, not much consolation I know but book that retest ASAP.

What bike were you on ?, you should be able to pull away quite comfortably in 2nd on most bikes.

is that a failable? is a bike or car not capabe of cutting out? bad fuelling etc.. I assume it wasnt your bike?

Surely if you recover from the incident and get out of the danger area, you are still a safe rider?

anyway its a bit acedemic now, but a real shame there rumpel.

How did the rest of the test go? not too hard?

unlucky m8

Sounds like you had a jobsworth there. as long as you rode fine the rest of the test seems a bit harsh to fail you for that when it can happen to anyone at any time.

Could be worse mate believe me. I had a car turn right through me earlier this week on my way to work. Result - bike down the road and me flying through the air. Both me and the bike are largely unscathed (good kit + R&G crash bungs saw to that), but chin up, you'll be ok.

Steve.

This was the only fault i done on the whole test!I recovered from the fault quickly and safely and didn't cause any hazard to anyone, that's what pissed me off,if i had sat in the middle of the road like a numpty trying to restart the bike fair enough but i wheeled back the bike to safety.I'm sure the examiner leaving his indicators on twice for very long periods was far more dangerous!

Can't believe that they failed you for that. Hard luck mate.

Get in there quick for a re-test - it's well worth it!

rumpelstiltskin, I failed on something which was equally stupid (ie not dangerous, sensible attitude could have happenned at any time). I'm convinced that some of these examiners have some sort of quota (ie "if I pass too many then I get reviewed" or similar)

Definately do a retest! its worth it for the grin factor when riding out.

I stalled on my bike test years go - couldn't re-start it either. But with lots of obbo, indicators and hand signals I got the bike safely to the side of the road. Where I re-started and carried on with the job in hand. After the examiner had given me my pass - I discussed it with him. He was very philosophical about the whole thing. It can happen to anyone he said - the important thing was that I had realised what had happened and dealt with the incident safely with due consideration to other road users. Depends on the attitude of the examiner or anyone else for that matter. Good luck on your re-test.
