Technical help gaskets?

Hello boys and girls.

I have ordered 4 new down pipe gaskets

the new ones have 2 tabs on one side only. the old ones either didnt or they have disintegrated.

the question is do these tabs go against the head or against the downpipes.

They may just be alignment tabs so you can hold the gasket in place with your fingers with the exhaust in position,as long as you get a good gas tight seal they're not that important.Thats just from a car point of view,maybe someone will know if bikes are different but i wouldn't think so.
