Wasnt sure wether or not to post here or in 'Speeding, Plod & the Law'
as i suppose it's mainly for bikers please read this
-------------

The LTI20-20 speed camera (the one used by most mobile units) should not be used to measure the speed of a three-dimensional target, the curvature of which is about the same size of the laser beam waist.
-------------
Assume a square on hit to the centre of the numberplate - the worst possible scenario - the laser would have to be directly behind the numberplate and level with the centre (yes I know that this scenario is impossible but bear with me).
190/3.499978547 = 54.286m before the laser ‘spread’ will make contact with something other than the numberplate. This is the maximum ‘safe’ distance for a ‘clean hit’.
-------------------
in other words a motorcycle caught from behind must be no more than 54.286m away never mind from the front with no flat surfaces
