Bike Warranties
Discussion
Does anyone know what the situation is with trackdays? I have looked in my official Triumph warranty and it says "excludes racing, misuse" but nothing specific about trackdays. My bike is 7 years old and the dealer I got it from is trying to make me pay for the crankshaft after it went due to oil starvation. They say due to the state of the tyres it must have been on a track day. I took it on one about 2 months before the thing broke down so I am sure this was not the cause.
Their warranty is about 3 lines long and doesnt mention any exclusions except aftermarket accessories.
Any help would be appreciated.

how come you still have triumph warranty on a 7yr old bike?
anyhoo.. quoting "misuse" could cover them under all sorts!! it could depend on the judge if you tried to take it all the way.
The usual plan I suspect is to get out of it, then when pressure is applied, they fold rather than go through a court.
So worse case scenario, get a solicitor to send them a letter informing them "their description is vague, and does not specifically deny track day use, and court proceedings will ensue, unless they back down"
abuse to me is wheelies, stoppies, burnouts, jumping buses. probably not even wheelies, but I know a man who had a fight with triumph, as they classed that as abuse.
going round a track is no different from going round a road, the speed is the same, the cornering is the same, the bike doesnt lie on the floor, or accelerate any differently from the road, and is therefore not outside the manafactures design specifications. If it is noted in the triumph manual that revs should "not exeed 6000 for long periods" to avoid engine damage, and you havent, then you havent abused it.
they have rev limiters anyway, so you havent mashed it that way either.
if anything the rules on trackdays mean you get thrown off if your not riding sensibly, whereas on a road, your not being monitored. tell um to sort it!
