Where can i get a Sachs XTC125?
Discussion
The XTC is four stroke i think.it will only ever make about 12-15bhp.The aprilia and cagiva can be derestricted to make 25-30bhp.The xtc will do maybe 80mph tops, the other two will top 100mph.The XTC is a nice looking bike but most people get fed up with so little power after a few weeks.I aint seen any about for a long time.I think Tony moto is the best place to try.
Just phoned up MCA scooters near St. Mary Cray and they have a red one left, going for about £3799.
Seems a bit too pricy, do you think that they can come down on that?
being totally new to the whole bike thing i don't think that i will be using the full 25-30Bhp of them bikes, espically as i still havn't passed the practicle (so no motorway stuff )

£4k is high, a TOP sports bike is less (second hand)
an second hand aprillia 125 replica would be far cheaper.
you can also get resctrictor kits to get you down to the 33kw limit. so you could have a cheap bandit 600, and restrict it. then take it off if/when you get a full licence. it will be cheaper in the end.(and the beginning as the bike will be cheaper than the sachs!)
helmets: arai and shoei are supposedly good ( I have an arai) but they sell on the name. ie they sponsor big racers, and that gives them street cred cool.
A recent test of helmets showed that even a £30 helmet gave better protection than expensive ones. just stick to getting the BS kite stamped gold style, and pay what you think you need to.
theres the NEC bike show soon, and bargains are possible, but only if you know what you want.
But a haggle with you local shop should get you a good price anyway, theyre are on large markup[s, so if your buying several items at once you will have room to haggle down.

I still think that you'll get bored in a couple of weeks.
I also don't think that spending 4K on a 125 is a good idea IMHO 125 are ridiclously overpriced (captive market) and you are going to drop your first bike, the sachs seems to have a lot of expensive fairing. Just my opinion and you my be a lottery winner for all I know.
If you are old enough to do a Direct access course and avoid 125's I would advise it. I have a 100 but when I did my test on an er5 (500cc) I was amazed at how much more stable and enjoyable it was.
Agree, agree, agree.
Did my test on a 125 and ran a 185 traily until allowed onto a biggy.
Once you get over the "bugger,it's a big bike and I'm frightened" feeling, the bigger bike will feel easier to ride, smoother, more comfortable, safer, more stable etc.
My 185 was seriously underpowered for motorway riding, dropping to 55mph on the hills and leaving me in a vulnerable position.
Also you WILL drop it so better to drop a cheapy.
Been there done that etc. Drawer full of tee shirts..

Well I've had a 125 for 6 months now and it was ideal for my old commute, but now it involves long flat out A road riding it's feeling very underpowered and hills make a real impact on it's speed
Thinking of upgrading to something with a bit more poke, naked 600ish style appeals to me, would love a Monster and am used to dodgy Italian electrics but I think with only 6 months NCB insurance is going to be a killer, might go the safe Bandit/Hornet/Fazer route for a year
The 125 sports bikes look ok as long as your not a salad dodging build otherwise it looks like someones shrunk the bike, remember they are aimed at 17 year olds

When I passed my test in April I had a Bandit 600, I thought it was way to powerful for me at the time, but very quickly got used to it and am looking for more power. You see the 125 bikes round here getting full throttle and top gear very quickly, whilst I'm still trundling along in first!.
I wouldn't bother with a 125, would take the full test ASAP and get a 600 bike that will last you some time. A bigger bike is easier to ride, smoother and is only as quick as you open the throttle, as somebody else said you can get restricter kits for most bikes, including Hyabusa's. Makes the bike extremely unridable though!

Also people seem to take more notice of you on a bigger bike. When I ride a 500 or 600 people see me (or seem to), let me out, give me room etc. When I'm riding the 100 I seem to be invisible and every B!stard feels they have to pull out on me, cut me up, try and knock me off, sit on mye back wheel.
Don't know why, just seems to work that way
