I have been looking at a few of these and was wondering are any versions of the 996 better than others?

Any general things to look out for when looking at such bikes?

Bon Journo, Massimo Tamburini here. You getta da good bike in the 2001 an after this year. Rosso isa de good colour as yellow is for de 748's. Anyting other ees not cricket. E (Biposto) weel come with de nice seat for da preeety laydees to seet. De S model, she come with the preety ladees seet an some tricky bitsa kit lika de Ohlins rear springy. Theesa hava the same lump as de E. De R isa da beastie for the flash geets. Bloody Ohlins everydam place and some nice carbony on everywhere. No knickers damp seet though!! Bloody good power is more than de other models from the titanium rods an some 52mm termignonis and chip for you make decision for nice wheelies. Ees nice.

But de 998R has de best an ees fitted with de testastretta (narrow head) an ees making a lot power for good showing off in the pub. I know that him upstairs ees riding dis bike.

Ciao.

AJ, hows it going? Are you going for that lovely Italian craft now or is it going to be a season of racing? Did you test a 999 as well or just the 749? I hear that the 749R is due fairly soon so I wouldnt commit to anything just yet.

The 748 is going in for TLC next week when Im on hols. Having the FIM Chip done with a sprocket carrier and 39T rear sprocket which means less top end and more low down to help me get it UP! Im having a 3k oil change as well, just hope the weather hasnt gone PETE TONG for when I get back.

Hi James,

Yes fine thanks. I've made an offer on a race preped sv, but as of yet i havnt heard back so not sure. I would love to race, funds permitting. I just need to pick a bike up at the right price. I have a long wish list at the moment which yes includes a zapcat (www.zapcat.co.uk) and the ducati is wey wey down at the bottom. Still like one though.

Hows the house decorating going. Judging by how long its taken and your nick name for her indoors 'dutchess' i guess its a palace eh?!

Enjoy your hols.

Cheers AJ,

Just got to varnish the bathsides and unit doors then we are done until spring next year when we don our gloves and head into the wilderness that is the back garden. From this point there will be many a jolly on fine sunny Sundays to the GARDEN CENTRE! Obviously I would rather be doing this than pulling the off first gear wheelies that I am managing at the moment.

On Saturday we went to take the bike down to Moto Rapido in Winchester to get the paint done and FIM chip, front brake judder, etc while we are on hols. The Duchess was driving the Bora and made a wrong turn which wound me up a treat. So made a U-turn further down the road, she led out of the junction, after about 20 seconds of her pulling away, I follow and slip clutch at wahey revs and up she pops!! (the Bike) and stays up! No Viagra! Big smiles. At this point the duchess was not checking her rear view mirror, which made it easier on my ears. This was all on private land, you understand.

Nice one M3EVO

I think i will drop a tooth off the front sproket on the R6 to aid front wheel lift?! So the dutchess has a bora eh thats why you have to use the bike then !!

Regarding your 'wilderness' if you need to employ the services of a tree surgeon / hedge cutter / elephant grass chopper i can help (its one of my hats on the hat stand so to speak). No worries if you dont but hey dont want you spending all that money on italian exotica when some of it could be in my pocket..being spent on italian exotica!!

Re the varnishing dont forget to tape the bits your not coating
