Yep. It should say on it that it is a provisional licence for group A.

most do although I think that a very few don't.

The riding school will check it before you start any training...

Not so sure on this one when I took mine I had the Full licence but I still took the CBT. The impression I got was that if you were doing the DAS then the CBT was part of that assessment certainly I had to show my CBT at the test centre as well as my drivers licence and theory test pass.

I believe the full car licence obtained before 1st of Feb 2001 allows you to have a provisional licence for motorbikes upto 125 and a full moped licence. But am not sure you can do DAS without the CBT. the DSA/DVLA website isn't clear on this either.

It certainly is a good idea to get used to a much smaller bike first. The school I went to, I got the impression that the CBT was compulsory before they would even let you on one of the 500cc bikes.

Full driving license gives provisional bike license. You need to pass your theory test before most of the schools will plan your lessons. You must have CBT (Compulsory Basic Training - clue's in the title) and the theory test before you can take the test proper.

You have to do the CBT as part of your DAS training. You can choose to do it yourself before you begin your DAS, but I think it is included in the DAS before your allowed to ride anything over 125cc.

Would have thought that most DAS schools will put you on a 125 cc initially, through a CBT, just to get you used to a bike on the road - before letting you loose on a bigger bike.

I thought that anyone who passed their car test before 1 December 1990, automatically had a bike provisional entitlement.

I passed my car test on 14 December '90, and so had to do a CBT course (well that's how it was sold to me at the time) prior to being let out on the road. I believe you have to do a CBT course now to even go out on a twist 'n' go (good thing if you ask me).

I also remember having to show my bike examiner my CBT pass certificate prior to my bike test.
