bike test prices compared to car test?
Discussion
As far as i remember i only had about 5 lessons for a car then my test, cost me just under one hundred pounds about 5 years ago,why is a bike test relatively so expensive?I've got it booked so it hasn't put me off but still when i look at the wad in my hand just now i'm thinking, what's it for?Even if you were taking say fifteen lessons at £16 an hour for 15 hourly lessons in a car now, then £35 for the test above this total,it would cost £275?It's costing me about £500 for the bike test?If i didn't love bikes so much i don't think i would pay that much, just my opinion:-)So why is it so much more expensive?
Don't forget in the car you have one vehicle and the instructor/examiner sits alongside you, therefore costs are minimal.
On the bike the instructor and the examiner needs a bike which has running costs, there is the cost of the radio equipment which is not cheap and the wear and tear on the machine in general as well as the kit worn by the instructor/examiner which also has to be allowed for.
From the instructional point of view, there is also the cost of the employer/public liability insurance as well as the road risk cover and many training schools also get charged a levy on each and every student who uses a school bike after say the 1st 20 of the year.
The cost to the training school is quite substantial and they have to be covered and there has to be an element of profit as well.
