Brave man, I'll stick with my old one for another season so they can fix all the stuff you put your warranty claims in for
Seriously though, you'll love it, if it's anything like the current models. Are you getting the R or the 'Factory' with the Ohlins goodies?
A couple of questions, seeing as you've ridden one, how did you find the mid-range? Bike reported that the standard cans (with cat's) strangled things a bit, which sounded so like the current models. Also you might want to check with the dealer if Aprilia are still shipping the UK spec bikes restricted to 100bhp, most dealers usually derestrict them at the first service, just make sure that they don't charge you extra for it, if this is still the case.
Finally, how are you getting on with the insurance, are they recognising the Aprilia immobiliser? TBH I'd jump at the chance to dump the datatool if I could get away with it.
Nigel.
P.S You'll probably want to pop along to RSVR.net

Hi
Rossncath
I assume its the old style as you have called it a mille - not "1000 RSV".
Its a great bike though. I just luv mine.
rsvnigel
Wot alarm? imobiliser?
I found the mille to be a grade or two lower insurance than the japanese boy/girl racers.
I only got mine datataged because I thought I should do something.
Enjoy

Thanks for the replies guys. Just to clear up any confusion i bought the 2004 aprilia rsvr (in black),will try and answer all your questions in one go if i can... so here goes. Would have loved the factory but just aint got the bucks for it, the bike does come with an ignition immobiliser (according to the dealer) but i have also had a datatag and datatool system 3 fitted (dont know what this alarm is like thou, anybody out there got one?) so the insurance is basically the same as the gixer, would love to tell you what it rides like but truth be known i aint ridden it yet!, they haven't got a demonstrator at the moment. To be honest thou i bought it with the heart, and if it rides as good as it looks then im on to a winner!. I did shop around and in the end went with D&K in staffordshire, did me a very good p/x on the gsxr 1000 and also did an excellent deal on the datatag and alarm . . .VERY VERY cheap, they also give 3 yrs warranty and not 2 yrs like everywhere else.
2001 - gsxr 1000 £5150 p/x
2004 - rsvr 1000 £8499
datatag - £50 (supply and fit)
alarm immob - £100 (supply and fit)

The datatool hasn't caused me any problems yet, although the auto arming of the alarm is a PITA when you stop to fill up. I've been told you can earth one of the leads to stop this happening, which I'll be speaking to the mechanic about when it goes in for a service in the next few weeks.
Have a squint at this and check the dealer installs the control unit in the tail properly.

The batteries aren't the best on the bike and alarm does add to the drain, combine this with the always on headlights (EU) so you'll probably want the dealer to throw in an optimate.

The alarm auto arming, make filling up a right carry-on as I keep the wallet & mobil in the tail hump.
Because the datatool's control unit is in there I have to have the hump off before it arms itself (else the tamper switch on the hump lock sets the fing thing off), then once it auto arms turn off the motion sensor, unlock the fuel cap fill-up. Pay, put wallet back in the hump, turn off the alarm turn on the ignition (so it won't re-arm itself) reattach the hump and hit the start button... phew.
Grounding the control wire only stops the alarm auto arming, the immobiliser part of the datatool still kicks in, as I understand it.
