In line with Teds no name and shame policy I'm not going to let on the make but would be interested in thoughts on the following.

Bought a 7 month old 1100 cc bike mainly for commuting from a main dealer in May of this year. The bike had previously been owned by a staff member of the manufacturer (good deal for staff type of thing) and covered 1600 miles. Since then I have done 3400 miles mostly motorway / A road but nothing heavy duty. Discovered on Saturday that one of the 4 frame lugs that the back end of the bike is mated to has snapped clean off thus rendering the bike unusable. Call the assistance line (still under warranty) and they are going to take it back to the dealer to have a new frame put on. A quick search of the web reveals that whilst this may not be a common occurance I'm certainly not the only person this has been an issue for.

Would you walk away and have the 'not fit for purpose' arguement, ask for written gaurantees that this was a one off manufacturing issue and this won't reoccur or accept a new frame no questions asked.

Thoughts appreciated.

If it were mine, I'd accept the new frame, clean polish then trade-in for something else.

I agree with RSVNigel. Get it sorted and move on, if they will take it back and give you a good price/ settlement well it might be worth a try? But it may not be a quick answer. If you keep it, it may be one of those things in the back of your mind when you're riding. Which aint good.

Good luck
