Not posted for a while because having a ball with bike!! already chocked up 600miles in 3 weeks and I don't use it for commuting

Checking bike over notice it has a scotoiler thing but the pipe looks empty. Need to refill it but what with? When to local garage, friendly but no idea. So what do you put in the scotoiler? is it their own liquid? or some special oil/lubricant?

I believe they do sell their own type of oil as i've seen it, maybe buy one and have a look to see what the SAE is and maybe you can find it cheaper somewhere else?

Scottoil do sell their own stuff - at a premium of course
I had mucho problems re-filling mine after the damn thing ran dry. Nowadays I just make sure I regularly lube me chain.......I know this won't last, but at least it's a kinda half-hearted attempt at a maintenance commitment

I'm pretty sure that's all the scottoiler stuff is.

Gear oil is fine. Or buy an O-ring chain.

After a lot of faffing about with re-filling my scottoiler I now do it the easy way & detach the right hand side rear fairing which is quite easy = 3 screws & takes 1 min & then pull out the vent tube which give a nice size hole. Assuming its run dry I then start engine to get the vacumm working, flip the dial to 'prime' then fill with oil with the scottoiler filler tube which takes 5 secs.

If its run dry it will take ages to pull through so I normally use my bicycle pump to push it through the pipes till I see oil dribble out on the floor then twist the dial back to light flow setting.

If I dont put mine on 'prime' if its run dry ive found it won't suck through on its own, an air lock I guess.

Also dont leave it on 'prime' as it will drain the tank in a short blast and there is a lot of oil plasterd about the place!

The Scottoil stuff is in a bottle with a pipe & nozzle, this connects to the oiler and you prime it by squeezing it through.

Even if you don't use their oil the bottle makes it easy to prime.

I use the high temp stuff (thicker), as the standard flows too quickly, & it seems to be a fairly constant flow - the 'tank' sits on top of exhaust heat shield and so is kept at a fairly even but high temp regardless of weather etc.

FWIW I think the Scottoiler is pretty good - saves me from forgetting to oil the chain for a month and then flooding it with lube.

After a lot of im going to stick with PJ1 blue to lube the chain , was going to get a scotoiler, but it doesnt take a lot to give the chain a blat with the lube every 400 miles or so

I use scotoiler oil from most bike shops.

If I'm touring I use engine oil to save having to carry two pots and it works fine too.

I can also confirm that vegtable cooking oil did no harm over 300 miles!
