Anyone out there had experience of Ohlins steering dampers?

I'm going to get a damper this weekend for the R1, and previously had a Matris damper on the old Blade (was excellent).

However Ohlins do a damper for the R1 that is £100 less than the Matris. Anyone compared an Ohlins with a Matris?

Got one on the Mille, it's adjustable, and it dampens the steering.

What more would you want

Got one on me Blade.......looks good & does the trick.
FWIW get a Harris mounting bracket for it so's you can tweek using your clutch hand on the move, otherwise the adjuster is throttle-side

BTW - I'd have just lurrrved a matris (4?) but couldn't get one soon enough plus they were about £400

The Matris was a lovely bit of kit, but they've stopped supplying the M2 model (£275) and now only do the M3 model (£375!!) for the R1. The Ohlins is £171 for the damper plus £101 for the fitting kit so works out a LOT cheaper.

just got the standard suzuki one on tl1000, its ok for all riding, but slow speeds is a pig. Both units are good if ohlins is cheaper, i'd go ohlins, I cant see that nuch difference between the two units.

Ive got a Matris type 3 fitted 916 stylee across the front of the tank.
It was almost the same price as the Ohlins once fitting kits were included.

The matris is very well made looks good and works very well. I havnt taken it of its lowest setting yet and its made the steering a lot less jittery already.
Its also supposed to be speed sensitive so you can leave it on the lowest setting according to the sales talk.
one down side of the matris is that you have to drill a hole in the yoke on my bike but it was easy to do.

I can't compare it to the Ohlins cos ive never tried a bike fitted with one(anyone wanna let me ride their Ducati?)

Thanks for all the replies.

I went for the Matris in the end, purely because the Ohlins shot up in price (due to FX rates) and PDQ fitted the Matris for free.

They've also talked me into getting the forks revalved for compression and rebound and fitting a better rear shock. Probably won't need the damper when that's all done!
