a good friend of mine has a new one,two month old,and its broke down 3 times in 300kms.It keeps sooting the plugs up and won't run. They thought it was carb icing as it has no carb heaters on it(NZ spec)Its turning into a bit of a pain as the dealer cant find the problem. It also misses lots on the road, and surges up and down the rev range.Other than that, shes a rocket ship
How much do you get to a tank full? He's getting 280kms,which to me seems pretty poor fuel consumption...dunno?

I had major problems with carb icing in the winter, there is an additive you can add to the fuel to stop this though. I've done 20000 miles on mine and have not had any other problems. On fuel consumption I am getting at least 250 miles from 21 litres of fuel(55 mpg), although I do a lot of motorway miles commuting to London everyday.
i was trying to find the manufactures spec fuel consumption figures but they don't seem to list them. Its was only to see if its burning loads more than it should.Do you think 55mpg is an accurate figure of are you nailing it out of every bend?
This particular bike has a really strange history too.It was brought in new by Kawasaki NZ and when first started it had a flickering oil light. After loads of looking for a problem KNZ stripped it down and found it had a bearing in the crank missing!! Just was'nt there.Soon as they put one in it worked fine, and they said they would give the bike an extra year of warrenty if my mate kept the bike.He did keep it,i'd have said cheque please! and since then hes had this other problem.Time to give it back to KNZ for good i think.

If I nail it a lot the consumption goes down to about 180-190 miles per tank, so 280 might be about right. Try going on the www.ZZR1200.net website, it is mainly american but there are techy forums which might give more insight into the problems

thats brill,thanks indeed.
Also try www.zx1112.bigbikeworld.com/forum/ - which (after Pistonheads of course) is a place I spend too much time. I've been toying with the idea of trading my ZZR1100D6 for a 1200 for some time - but can't bring myself to be parted with it just yet.

I had a D2 before the 1200 but glad I made the move because everything is improved for the better.
the dealer did a test at the weekend to see if its using the correct amount of fuel,if only to eliminate a carb problem. It did 39mpg average riding and 54mpg riding 100kph really steady on the open road.Since then he's changed the mixture a tad on the carbs and it would appear to be running fine now.Guess only time will tell.I can also see why my mate gets such poor mpg as everyone says you get only mid 20s if you cane it...he canes it everywhere, and he weights about 25 stone!Cheers
