If it were my choice i'd go FZR400RR or any 400 or maybe a RS250 Aprillia. Loads of smiles per miles on both types. Good luck.

Danny,

Not clear if you've already done your test, got some kit etc. If not you'd better factor this into your 2k. May make it a bit marginal to get a decent bike with the remainder, so you might be best to hold off a little while. There's kit a few threads on kit and training in this forum, but to summarise, don't skimp on either of them because they'll be what keeps you in one piece.

Steve.

Get a bike that you feel comfortable with. You need to build your confidence in your own abilities. I would suggest a more "street" type bike to start with. The less plastic, the cheaper the repairs (and you will drop it!). Good boots, gloves, helmet and jacket/trousers cannot be overstated. Take your time, watch out for yourself and the other "idiots" (there's lots out there!), and you'll live to enjoy years of riding. Don't feel you have to be Valentino!

Try these folks then Danny - www.batmotorcycles.co.uk/ They always seem to have a good 400 line up.

Just sold one of my fleet, a really clean VFR400 (NC24) it went for under a grand and was a really decent little bike, I'd defo advise one of 'em as a 1st bike. No slower power wise than my other Honda an RVF400 (not really in the same league handling wise as an RVF tho!)and coz they weigh so little they are not far off the performance of an older 600 like a Bandit, GSXF etc.

Just let my 1 yr old KTM adventure go for £3.8k. Would certainly advise one of these or the supermoto version - cheap insurance and many many thrills

*cough* ZZR600 *cough* cheap to buy and cheap to insure make sure you get an E1 onwards though 1993>
Handlings not bad and the engine is fantastic can still keep up with the new stuff in a stright line without any probs and insurance is cheap compared to the ZX6R when i changed it doubled overnight
For the money the ZZR600 is very hard to beat !

Take the girlfriend on holiday, give up drinking and sell the Beemer then buy a Suzuki Bandit. Then you can say look what I've given up just for you so you could have a good time.
