Just wondering how much more is left from my R6 - I've seen an indicated 174mph but still not on the limiter in 6th.

Is there anymore to come?

Oh relax yourselves. Firstly I don't believe the guys who went to prison needed to have gone. They pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and I don't think they needed to have done.

It would be very difficult for the Police to argue that speed alone is proof enough of dangerous driving given that in Germany most de-restricted autobahns are only dual-carriageway. So whilst you are happy to accept you broke the law speeding that doesn't make it dangerous.

Secondly doing big speed on a modern bike is very undramatic. For example the R6 hits the rev limiter at 16000rpm. In 6th gear 116mph is only 10000rpm.

Got 165mph out of my M3EVO and like you describe, pretty undramatic as everything remained quite calm, My Sierra Cosworth, however, at 150mph felt like you were going to detonate at any second (all on private roads of course). It all depends on the situation. In any scenario, if you hit a stationary object at any speed above 30mph you will suffer some form of injury, but if you worried about that, you would never leave the house.

Havent tried any great speeds on the Duke yet as it is so nice to ride at reasonable speeds round bends etc. Just keeping myself amused with the stupid lean angles.

174mph...... The best i've seen from my R6 is 154mph (on private roads). What are you running it on Av gas?

AJ

p.s. I hear 'Ron' in cell H is very sensitive

Nothing my bike is a totally stock 2003 fuel injected R6. Standard ECU, motor, exhaust, etc.

It just runs on Super Unleaded and mine will do over 150mph in 5th gear! Obviously this is just a digital speedo reading.

174 I would probably get your speedo looked at.
If all is ok, where do you get your petrol.

Ron is no where near as gentle as big gripper, he even has his own lubricants, he may well find you some chain wax as a first timer.

Realisticly to get above 155 on a 600 is very difficult indeed. 175 is R1 terratory, shure your bikes got the right engine.

Hmmm - Err don't know. Any other 2003 R6 owners can help here?? No it definately said 174mph on the speedo - and whilst I'm sure it isn't totally accurate it must be somewhere within 6-7mph??

I reckon your speedo is just reading too high, try and blag a GPS from someone and compare the two.

Cant you change from MPH to KPH on the R6 digi-clock? Are you sure you are not in KPH mode? (Trying not to teach egg-sucking)174 sounds feasible.

If not then don't bend down to get the soap in future!
Big gripper likes a good rub down after his sewing classes.

M3EVO - 15000rpm in 6th isn't 174KPH - maybe in or even on a BMW!

It isn't 174 mph either. An R6 won't top a real 160mph and won't rev out in top gear (unless you alter the gearing). A true 174mph is about what an R1 would get. Having said that, 160mph on a 600 is bloody fast!

Surely the speedo can't be over 14mph out??? To be honest I've never had a 600cc bike before but it is surprisingly quick.

I was dicing with a 2002 GSX-R600 which had a race can and the R6 pulls yards on it.

If you say it's 10% out, which is within the limits set by the law then 160 + 16 gives 176mph. I'd say it's easily possible to over read this much.

mine was 10mph out at 70, ie reading 80. on that scale 160 showing, is 140. so 174 is a real 154mph.

either way those R6's are a quick old machine.

mind you considering it will take you 350 metres to stop, I hope your looking that far up the road..

FYI If the S50 B32 unit revved to 15000rpm which I believe it wouldnt (10000rpm max in Gpn N format) I would assume that the speed acheived in 6th would be 345mph in a BMW M3 due to 23mph per 1000rpm based on a rear diff ratio of 3.91. I was offering the KPH comment as purely a check. Its Friday so leave me alone.

I didn't realise that the speedo's are that far out but if that's how it is then so be it.

So regardless of whether it is a true 174 (or a real 154) will it have any more to come? Only I had to back off for a speed camera during the test!!

I've had mine showing 155mph which was accurate as far as I know. If you have had it showing 170+mph then your speedo needs looking at.

To be honest as mentioned the R6 won't reach the red line in top, so I would be very surprised if there was anymore left it it.

Still found mine more fun round the twisties rather than maxing it out on a (private) carraigeway.

I think it may be posible a 99 ninja 600 was clocked at 169mph in bike magazine and newer 600's are more powerful so maybe.
