Ok in reply to this-

"954 girlie said:
where is Lizard boy? what was Wales like? race report please!!!"

Right 'ere goes-

To start I did not have a good 3 dayer in Wales......

It was a bloody fan-flippin-tastic

It did however have an ominous start, as literally a few mins into Wales just off the M4 and heading up the A4048 we spotted we were being tailed by a Police chopper! Perhaps the who can hoist the best wheelie competition from the Severn bridge tolls was not such a good idea after all

Anyway as we had all previously agreed to keep it legal on any big A roads he soon went off and annoyed someone else, probably someone who didnt keep waving at the chopper! well I just like to be friendly

The plan was to keep the speeds sensible as i had no plans to end up with big ron on D wing for a few months and thus we spent very little time on the big A roads (20 miles or so) and infact spent the majority of the time on B rds & unclassifieds. 'twas a good plan as other than a short streach of the A470 that we did inbetween B rds where 2 gatsos were spotted (the buggers still have 'em in battle ship grey the sods!)we saw no other gatsos, not one laser cop & no camera vans, infact on some of the fantastic mountain passes we went accross we didnt even see another vehicle for 30mins or so! peak summer too!

Some ace advice was given on PH that the scamera sites are on the obious long streights, wereas in the fun twsitys on the same road they are not to be seen & sure enough when the road turned twisty not one was to be spotted.

This was not a big high speed session*, the plan was really to find some lovely twsity bits and find some we certainly did (*saved the flip plate flipped up & stupid speed stuff for the trip back across england hmmm some bits of that were just a bit daft)

Mainly explored mid wales & the furthest north we got was Bala. Found a bloody ace mix of roads from medium speed long sweepers to sheep sh*te encrusted single trackers.

Few dodgy bits of gravel on blind summits on b & unclassifeds & bloody suicidal sheep when you are cranked over & commited made the old heart race a bit but no caranage occured.

One of my fave bits that I now can't remember for the life of me, but I 'think' it was the unclassified mountain rd from Devils bridge to Rhayader was more like a tarmaced motocross course that I dont think saw me out of third gear for more than a milisecond or two and some great bum off seat- both wheels off the deck action, bloomin' lovely (man I want to do that bit again on the KTM I tryed a while back)

Oh and the first bit of the B4518 out of Llanidoes to Llanbrymair is relitivly legal speeds and is one of the nicest bits of B road you will find anywhere in the world, bit too short but just fantastic- reminded me of the best bits of NZ south island and the weather we had made it feel very similar too.

All in all one of the best times I've had in a long long while, met some ace locals, found some terrific B&Bs with very nice (and bike friendly owners which i have certainly not always found the case in england), the weather was more Wakikii than Wales and the roads were supurb.

Great memory of gently rumbling through a rural B rd village at well under the 30mph limit keeping revs & speed down so as not to annoy the locals & feck it up for others to enjoy it, and as we get to the derestricted sign and drop several cogs in prepration for hoonage this old boy poishing his car gives us a huge thumbs up & a wave, classic never seen that in england either..

Wales thank you very much, I very much enjoyed your company & I very much look foward to visiting you again, hmm best mates wedding next weekend or take the bike to wales again to enjoy the rest of this heatwave we are ment to be having........ hmmmmm.

My lovely bed beckons now, hmm a whole 5 hours sleep that will see me so refreshed for tomorrow with a lovely neck ache & a right wrist that hasnt hurt so much since I was a hormonal single teenager

Going to Wales tonight and then back again in the morning - from Chester area.

The A483 aint bad but then its on to A495 through Meifod to just before Llanfair Caereinion. Lovely road and scenery.

Doing the same route again tomorrow night as the wife an kids are staying down there for a few days.

Really looking forward to the drive..

Oh shit, looks like I'll have to stop for a drink on the way down then - to avoid all the traffic of course!

All the detours I know still seem to hit Meifod unless I stick on the rather bring A483 for a while longer.

Cant stop too long, the wife's taking me out for a meal tonight! She must be after something...

Really enjoyed the ride down last night and back up this morning and can now recommend the Jugs Restaurant down there.

The bike went beautifully and the weather was perfect.

Taking the Kougar down tonight(3.8 Jaguar engine) but bet it won't be as much fun as the bike.

Everyone very friendly and all the bikers nodding and waving - unless they were trying to tell me something!

I'm glad you enjoyed the roads in the Land of My Fathers...

It really can be truly great...shame about old mad Ayatollah Brunstrom ...luckily not all the roads can be under his over-watchful eye at the same time....

I keep meaning to take the Mrs on the Northwards drive from Cardiff to North Wales up the A470 - some of the best drives of my life were up that stretch....

Perhaps on the way to the Bookatrack do at the end of September..I've booked their Caterham for the Sunday (28th) and two sessions in the hour for the Mrs and I to do enjoy...yes...oh yes...oh yes....

Agree totally Don.

Must say tho that despite all the negative press that bikes in Wales have had lately we recived nothing but friendlyness all round.

However there were a few absolute tosspot bikers around tho, doing there best to cock things up for the rest of us, groups of bikers doing 70+mph in small quite little 30mph limit villages (where even 20mph is more than approprate) with the revs bouncing off the limiters, while people are sat around in little road side cafes etc and lots of people wandering about is realy not cool boys.
