Warranty and servicing
Discussion
Just had the SV serviced yesterday, 7.5K miles 3rd service £180!
Oil/filter, Air filter, plugs +£80 labour.
The service interval is 3.5-4K miles which I am doing every 2 months!!
I can't be spending £100-£180 every 2 months on servicing just for the sake of the Warranty when I can do it myself.
If I do it myself I assume I invalidate the warranty, would I be mad??

A manufacturer cannot withold a warranty claim on the basis that it has not been serviced by a manufacturers dealership. It has been held under the treaty of Rome that provided it serviced by a competent person (so it could be a DIY job)then the warranty must be honoured.
VW got fined many millions only a couple of years ago for the very same reason.
Honda actually state in their handbook that they recommend the bike is serviced by a Honda dealer, but then go onto say that warranties will be honoured provided it has been serviced and maintained by a competent person.
This stuff about having to be serviced by the franchised dealer is brainwashing on the part of the importers and myths passed down from generation to generation, the only time the dealer needs to get involved is for the warranty work itself as the parts will be supplied by the importer FOC, but the dealer hates warranty work as they only get paid a fraction of their hourly rate.
