MCN this week has a feature on the 2004 Fireblade, or CBR998RR as they will allegedly call it - dropping the Fireblade name. Yep, they're moving up to the thousand cc class.

The same chappy that designed the new CBR6, as well as The Doctor's MotoGP bike, is in charge of the CBR998RR.

Lots of sexy stuff like underseat exhaust and radial mounted brembo brakes (not the usual Honda Nissins for a change).

Out in 2004, and definitely on my shopping list.

Kwak are also finally coming out with a ZX10-R in 2004 too. And if they get that as right as the new 636 then it will be a real contender.

Wonder if I'll be able to ride it...

I'm an ex rugby player and have badly arthritic knees. I can't get on with GSXRs, R1s, Blades or Ducati's, because after half an hour in the seat I need hospital treatment.

I've been starting to think in terms of getting another bike, but I want something that is at least as quick as the ZZR1100, but which hasn't got the ergonomics of a razor blade. I set my sites on a ZX12R last year, but even that was too extreme. I rode a ZZR1200 and found it has lost some of the sporting edge (in my opinion) - it has gone too middle aged and respectable. And it's fugly. Yam FJRs the same. I'll have to keep soldiering on with the 11 until I find a solution...

Guess you'll struggle with the 2004 blade then as it's teeny-weeny - no bigger than a sports600cc.

The Kwak will be bigger, but still cramped like all super sports machines.

mmm i fancy those too, my insurance company wont though

The new Laverda SFC1000 is also looking stunning and on the other end of the scale the Kwak Z1000 is to be made with the 636 engine, for us low NCB people!

Cant believe they dropped the name fireblade is that true!!!!!

Must say the picks look lurvley of the new blade, (IM STILL CALLING IT A BLADE SO THERE) but, I still believe the superbike should be bigger than a 600, although i'm probly alone there.

It will be interesting to see how kawasaki do with the zx10, as it will have GSXR 1000 lump in.

I agree, it might strike the right balance between sportiness and comfort for you. They also sell more Blackbirds than Hyabusas and ZX12Rs combined, and with good reason.

Only if you can keep it up while changing at least three gears. I'd try to impress you by telling you about my knee down antics, but as we have already established, I don't have any knees

You're called Gixxer1000.....

If you've got a 2001 or 2002, then try the 2003 K3. You'll fit just fine, and the brakes!!! Suzuki will not be toppled by anything next year (IMHO)

It wasn't me who was wondering if they will fit. That was someone else mate. I have one and fit just fine.
