Modifications & insurance...
Discussion
I have booked 2 test rides with my local dealer on Saturday, one on a 600 Hornet and the other on an SV650S.
The SV has had a belly pan fitted (which I assume is an aftermarket product). Anyway I phone my insurance broker for some quotes (strangely the SV was more despite being a lower insurance group ???) and was trying to ask the broker if the belly pan counts as a modification and would it affect the policy. I just couldn't get the guy to understand what I was talking about, initially he thought it was a performance mod and then he thought it was "like a big plastic sticker" and so didn't matter.
Anybody got any adviseexperience of this ?.
thanks

The SV was signnificantly cheaper for me to insure than a hornet - no idea why this joker is charging more! When I questioned my insurer on fitting an aftermarket can, I was told no problem, whether it's legal or not, you're covered with no change to the premium. I can't imagine why a belly pan is significant in terms of modification, so I'd find an insurer with a bit more of a clue.
