changing my oil today found a funny shaped washer stuck to the magnetic sump plug

Engine runs fine but if its a washer there will be a nut and a bolt possibly floating around and that cant be good! there is a bit of damage on the washer as if it were traped at some point.

also Ive had 2 crash mushrooms snap off just while riding. Those bolts are really hard so how can they just snap off?

Engine runs fine and there are no abnormal vibrations.

Most likely that the mechanic dropped it during the last service and it has just found its way into the sump. If something had failed I'm almost certain that the engine wouldn't be running smoothly. Was there any sign of unusual swarf in the oil?

Agree that it has probably found its way there during service and I have heard of this before.
But I would still try to identify it in case it indicates something else may be floating around in there.

on the sump plug, doesnt the washer get changed with each service? its even possible that this washer is meant to be on your sump plug? is there one on it now?

I don't think the sump plug washer would actually go through the hole though

Matt.

The washer apears to be a "gasket seal" come washer that fits behind the clutch cover and the bolt that goes through it holds on the clutch cover!

Its there because the threaded hole isnt blind. ie to stop oil leaking through where the bolt goes.

how it ended up in the engine is a mystery. clutch cover must have come off at some time.
