I've been offered a Renegade can for my SV. It's 9 months old, looks in good nick and being a bit new to these things I've no idea what's a fair offer. What do you reckon all?

Thanks,

Steve

top cans are £300 area.
normal brand new £150. for a second hand without warranty, 50-100 sounds plenty.

personally I like the ART cans on the SV, bloody noisy with that V-twin machine gun sound.

Chap paid £330 for it originally, including fitting and posting his original back to him. Opening price from him was £100, it'd need fitting(£??) and repacking (£15), which I'd have to pay for. He's bringing it in for me to see tomorrow. I've said nought about what I'd pay for it other than I'm interested.

Thanks for the advice tho,
Cheers,

Steve

Steve, you should be able to fit it yourself, unless the chap also had a dynojet or power commander fitted as well (which depends on whether you have fuel injection or not).

I am a mechanical muppet but managed to fit race cans to my old VRF800 and new GSX-R750 myself.

Generally manufacturers state that their cans are "slip on", and don't require re-jetting etc, but some people prefer the piece of mind of knowing for sure that the can is not going to cause any longer-term ill-effects, and also re-jetting (or adding a power commander) often squeezes out a few more bhp than just whacking on the end can itself.

Most of the advertised cans for the SV state you will have to cut the original system. (I guess its a 1 piece system??) so I would advise getting some sleeving made up so you can fit the original for MOT & re-sale.

Thanks for the advice chaps and Iguana is right, fitting the Renegade system means cutting the exising pipes. I'll probably get Renegade to do that for me, although my dealer has also offered, so looks like MOT isn't a problem with them with it fitted.

Do I only need an MOT after three years, as it is with four wheelers? Also, back to my original question, how much should I be offering. I'm inclined to go with Denny's £80, but I get a look at it in the flesh today, so what should I be looking at to know it's in good order?

Thanks,
Steve

Renegade cans are amongst the best on the market for quality, they are made from thicker st/st than most others, have st/st perforatted inner tube (most others are mild steel) and are of a "bolt togeather" construction so can be repacked easier than having to drill out rivets etc, the general build quality is leaps and bounds ahead of the cheaper cans on the market, oh yes they also have a lifetime warrenty and if you bin the bike the component parts for the can are avaliable seperatly for a repair, you won't get much better and they are priced fairly for their market position. The SV is also a bit of a renegade speciality. It depends where in the country you are but if anywhere near Brands Hatch I'd suggest you buy it from your mate (anything under a £100 is a bargin) and then bowl down to the factory to get them to do the surgery and a repack, you'll find Jorge very amiable (in a slightly mad way) and his wife Tomoko who works on reception in a lovely lady.

I will confess that I do know them personally as they used to be one of my sponsors when I was racing, but I haven't let that cloud my opinion that they do produce a quality product.

PS its the little things that do it, most other cans simply have the wading wrapped round the tube and that's why it gets blown out and needs repacking, renegade pre wrap the inner tube with St/St wire wool to protect the packing from the resonance, before really packing in the wading solid (the denser the wading the better in terms of performance)

Deal done, the can is cool with the insurers (whether road legal or not) just need to pay the man and collect it.
