first bike, help needed?
Discussion
i would like to get into biking but im not sure what would be a good bike to learn on.
im only 19 at the moment so it would have to be 125 maximum, but i cant find a bike that i really like
im not convinced by the 2 strokes and i cant find many 4 stroke 125s.
i quite like the look of the Honda Varadero XL125V but surely their must be other bikes that would suit me?

Depends what you want really (I'm good at stating the bloody obvious )
I'm just about to do my direct access and buy a bigger bike, but I bought an RXS-100 to learn on. It cost me a couple of hundred pounds, is a two stroke and has been very reliable, my only expense in 2 years has been spark plugs, types and a new battery.
It'll do a about 60 (indicated on the speedo) and is a
good laugh . It's mot very pretty to look at but I've been pleased with it. There's bugger all to go wrong and it runs forever an a sniff of petrol.
A lot of the schools use SR125's but I just think that learner bikes are far to expensive for what they are and I wouldn't spend a lot of money on one. I think you'd be better of spending some of the cash you'd save on a cheaper bike on some decent protective clothing. (old git mode on) It doesn't matter what you are riding, if you hit the tarmac at 40 it's still gonna bloody hurt. (old it mode off)
Hope that helped.

I'm also thinking about becomming a biker.
I don't have much luck with cars (reliability wise), and I don't have space for two, so I want a bike as backup.
Can you guys point me to some 'getting started' info?
I'm 21 and have driven cars since I was 17, did the theory test for cars and bikes.
What's the fastest way to get off a 125cc (which would be a bit of a pain to ride 35 miles along the A3).
I'd like something closer to 400cc 4-stroke so it'd not deafen me on the way to work.
Cheers,
Al.

either you take your test on a 125, which would limit you to a bike of 33bhp or less ( you can also get a more powerful bike and get it restricted ) for 2 years. Or do a direct access course where you take your test on a bigger bike (normally a 500) and can then ride anything you like (insurance costs allowing).
