Hello, I just came back from a nice run around south/mid Wales and was lucky enough half way through to pull up for a break right next to a race track. At the time there were a load of bikes there really going for it.

Anyway, I noticed that the road legal bikes which had number plates had masking tape over them, why is this?

I read a thread somewhere that cars used for racing are frowned upon by race officials if used on the road (can't work out why) so is this to conceal their identities?

Cheers, just curious and was wondering if I'd have to do anything to mine in the future

I've always thought it was that just in case you stacked it & a photo found its way to your insurance company, thus slightly putting a dampener on your claim that someone nicked the bike (if you are third party F&T) or you shoved it down the road (if you have fully comp)

As to why some of us have flip up plates..... errrr well *ahem* similar reasons eh Dennis

Tape on the number plates is as described - so insurance 'insiders' that wonder the pitlane can't take a note of the bike.

Tape on the lights, mirrors, etc is in case you stuff it. Means the track doesn't have to close for an 20 extra minutes (pi55ing off all the other paying guests) while they sweep up your broken glass.

The web address I think you were looking for was www.Bike2Track.com

They went by the wayside late last year, as no one went to their track days!

I think the flip tips are being revised and will be out soon by another company. These ones wont go pete tong!!!!
