Can anybody tell me why the BBC bought the rites to Moto GP if they have no intention of showing it?

Highlights at midnight FFS

BBC in management couldn't organise a piss-up in brewery shocker, news at 10.

Worth watching or videoing for the last lap alone, more overtaking on that one lap than an entire F1 GP.

Someone on the Motorcycle News website sent a letter to the BBC and this is the reply he recieved.

I am well aware that the timing slots given to GP are less than ideal but at present other events with pre-existing contracts take precedence and whilst you may not be a golf, snooker, rugby fan many, many millions are. I realise Channel 5 showed more coverage but despite reports to the contrary the BBC Sport portfolio is very strong and means that we have often have more than one event to show at the weekends. We are doing 5 live GP's this year and other GP's will get a longer slot - I have already managed to negotiate extra airtime from BBC2 for the 3 remaining late night shows this year. Our long term aim is every GP live and we're working very hard towards this.
On the subject of 125 and 250, rather like F1 which is often mentioned in comparison, we have chosen to focus our energy on the main event and to build that up as a spectacle, there simply isn't the airtime for the others. Due to government legislation we can't just put live sport on the digital channels either and late night slots are not easy to come by. The team and I work incredibly hard to try and put together the best shows possible. This year is tough but the figures show that we are expanding the audience for GP - the bigger the audience, the bigger the place we have in the schedules - at the moment we continue to be very small fry beside other sports but we are working to change that. Part of that brief is to introduce the riders and teams and although that eats into the race time I think its important. The BBC rates GP very highly and has long term plans to support it but it will take time and I ask you to bear with us. I want to make GP the unmissable event of the weekend. We also have 2 hours of coverage of Monza this weekend - Race 1 in its entirety and live coverage of Race 2. The early long haul rounds have never been shown live whilst we will continue to do the European ones as last year.

Watched it on Eurosport !ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT.
Unfortunately it gets interrupted by fg adverts and the commentary can be a bit iffy IMHO but at least it's live.

Shhh!! Pesty hasn't seen it yet

Eurosport aren't too bad, at least they let Randy Mamola hang an open mike over the pit wall.

Edited to say those suzuki bergman ads really get on my tits though.

I gotta disagree their commentary is about the best. They both know exactly what they are talking about as
they have both been in it a long long time. As for Randy Mamola well he is the man.

Feel sorry for anyone that "gets away from the pack" only to be brought back in the re start but the new system is Sooooo much easier to follow. And remember we, watching the telly, have the advantage of the computers & common-taters (old joke) to keep us up to date, those at the track can only hope for the best as you usualy cannot hear the tannoy for airhorns etc.
Overall, the new system is definitely the best.
