Hello all,
Just wondering if anyone here has any experience in importing a personal motorcycle to the US from Europe. I am thinking of picking up a Ducati while I am in Europe for work, and if I remember correctly, bikes do not have to worry about the emissions compliance like cars do when importing to the US. Anyone have any experience or info on this?

Thanks, John (usually in the Esprit forum)

If you are not a US citizen, then you can temporarily import one by signing a some forms, but get a specialist to ship it in for you - the hassle of customs is best left to the experts. If you want to import one permanently, then it will need to be converted to US spec. There are quite a few companies that can do this for you.

techspy, not wanting to state the blatantly obvious, but why search for a Duke on the continent with the specific purpose to exporting to the States (and all the hassle/worry/paperwork) that will entail, instead of just buying one when you get there?

You can get Ducati in the USA, and they may even be cheaper than they are in the UK (just guessing).

If you had a particular bike at the moment and couldn't bear to part with it, or had done some research and found that the model you want is not available there, then that's different. But to source one with the specific purpose of exporting it sounds like a bunch of unnecesary hassle to me.
