I had a radar detector on my last bike. Had it and the bike for 10 years before changing a couple of years ago and have not looked at detectors since so this may be out of date.
I bought a Cobra Trapshooter? Remote so I could mount the detector bit under the fairing and the readout bit on the triple clamp plastic cover bit that most bike have. Reasoned that it would be easier to hide if they made detectors illegal as the powers that be were hinting at. Also it is easy to find a small plastic box to put it in if you are worried about rain. It had an earpeace exptension jack so I ran an extension under the tank so I could plug an earpiece in and disconnect it easily, though I hardly ever used it.
I covered over 140,000km on that bike (ah the BMW brick, they go on forever) and I think it saved me several times. Specially in the country when the cops had those sausage things mounted on their cars. You pick them up from miles away.
Still got a few tickets though.
