What was it, being beaten by another bike, or being passed 3 times by a cruiser with 1/2 the power, and double the weight?

I'm talking about YOU, Mr Fireblade, and Mr R1, R6, and GSRX750 man, on the way to Southend Saturday.

So you don't like it that I can keep up on the corners, through the traffic? despite the fact I'm still running the engine in?

So not even a nod at the traffic lights?

You types make me sick. There's not enough people that actually like bikes, without this further segregation...

If I'd been on my Ninja it wouldn't have taken me 15 minutes to beat you all, it would have been 30 seconds. Losers the lot of you.

what did you expect when your bought that monster of yours

theres a large portion of sportbikers that just pass and go, they havent learnt the biker codes yet, maybe you should have stopped and advised them?

hows the big brute going anyway? how much more run in to do?

and what do you mean you kept up? I thought you got this bike to SLOW down and keep your licence???
youve still got the need for speed aint ya?

It works the other way as well, I find that cruiser riders (particularly Harley riders)rarely return a nod to me on my Triumph Sprint. After you've waved or nodded to 2 or 3 during a day's ride you think well bollocks I'll not bloddy bother with them. Then of course the next one waves and I feel like an arse.

When I'm on my old 1970 Triumph 250 Trophy no bugger acknowledges me unless I come across another old bike.

I usually at least nod to every bike I see, even scooters.

Currently at 360 miles. 1st service at 5/600.
Not supposed to go over 65, but the odd burst of 80 seems fine.

I like this bike, apart from being ignored!! handling is miles better than I feared. Brakes are a bit poor - eg needs braids. Grip seems excellent. Finish/build quality makes most sportsbikes look poor.

No doubt it has acheived what was intended - now I need to adjust to the fact that I can afford to let people go.. but old habits die hard. Does feel funny going 50mph slower everywhere.

Yeah, Harley riders are another breed altogether.

BTW, got the Geodesy installed already!

PS who said sportbikes were hard to ride? this thing takes double the skill due to its size.

Carl, I shouldn't worry about it, as you know my roots are firmly set in Sports Bikes but it absolutely cracks me up when on a winters Sunday morning we call into the local bike friendly cafe on the crossers covered in mud and shite and meet the few sports riders who've dared venture out in the cold the way they look down their noses at the lesser beings. There seems to be no realisation that we may actually also have arse kicking bits of kit at home in the garage but are keeping the skills really honed during the winter months by rolling in the mud. Fluck em ! snobs the lot of them

PS I never wave at cruises either because they really are lesser beings If I wanted to sit on a sofa I'd stay at home

Mel, I've been thinking about starting a bit of off-road stuff myself. Where do you ride ?, Any recommendations for a good starter bike. Thinking about Honda XR250, or the new Yamaha WR250, but may get a second hand bike first to see if I like it. Do you do it all year round or just in Winter ?

Thanks

S.

cheer Mel ! - the funny thing is, I've been out far more in the cold & wet on this thing than I would on the 636 !! know what you mean about sofa's though. This is a seriously comfy machine, and I only took this option to keep me in 2 figure speeds. Turns out I quite like it - so it's the south of France for me later this year.

The problem is that all bikers should stick together, and to a lesser degree, all vehicle USERS should too.

I've always found BMW riders to be the worst for this. Gave up any pretence of fraternity with them years ago...

cheer up mate.

(They clearly don't have the gonads to ride those machines properly either, as they no doubt realised as you graciously swept past them on your first overtake)

Depends what you intend doing with it, I've currently got a XR400R (six weeks old and knackered already, it's a hard life) If green laneing or Enduro I'd say go for a 4 stroke 400, if Moto Xing properly 250. It's great fun and keeps your hand in during the winter months if you can afford it go for a new WR450 electric start and just becoming avaliable now, new XR450 again electric start is due out soon.

As for me it's purely seasonal, I've now officially given up (again ) riding on the road and have got three track day bikes for the summer and the XR for the winter.

I have an old DT125.. derestricted, she is an old LC mk2, only done 5,000 miles. good for hacking down green lanes, very cheap to fix, and since it only cost me £600 I dont mind if it gets damaged. Admittedly, it lacks the power of the bigger bikes, but now the Missus is learning to ride a geared bike, as opposed to her scooter which i take to the train station every morning, its perfect.

I choose to nod at every biker that I come across when out riding, no matter what sort of bike, scooter or trike they ride. If they choose to nod back, great; if they don't, then so be it, they have a problem - not me.
I feel it's just common courtesy to acknowledge other riders, although I realise that central London, where there are an abundance of bikes, it may be impractical.

Hertzbiker - no wonder you would'nt trust yourself on my R1, you'd have to find street legal funny cars to race by the sounds of it! know what yer mean on the snobs bit, I live in Bournemouth, the largest number of snobs per square mile outside Londons Mayfair, feel sorry for em, I do. I'll wave if I see you on the road.

cheers mate - I'm having a problem keeping to "cruising" speed on the cruiser. It keeps wanting to go around the ton. Still, atleast that is a lower speed than on the Ninja. My other problem is a wife with no fear - so I NEVER get nagged about going too fast!!!!

Keep it shiney side up dudes.
