My KTM 500 "died" yesterday, after many years of entertainment and numerous breakdowns, including a full throttle seizure at about 70-80 mph on a dirt track (which was nice!) I went to start it yesterday and it wouldn't go, always been a pig to start mind, anyway further investigation shows that crankcase that houses the water pump is corroded and all of the coolant is now in the gearbox this is not a good thing, crankcase not repairable and new one (if available) would cost more than value of bike.
Anyway I have donated it to a mate who will "recycle" some of the bits.
I have been considering replacing it for a while with something more "user friendly" ie easier to start and more reliable (I'm too old for that 10+ minute start routine sh1t), Really want something that starts first time (preferably electric!) and 4-stroke ie lots less trouble, but I like the power of the KTM! so I suppose it's time to spend some cash, but what to get that gives the same performance/thrills without the ballbreaking of a motocrosser (bear in mind this is an occasional use toy), suggestions anyone?

Cheers, I had looked at DR400Z, but thought that maybe it was a bit "limp" I need to look further into this, how good is the WR450?, could be a bit pricey for me though, (have had to cut back a little lately - on toys anyway!)
A WR will knock spots off of a DR400Z (and looks better). I haven't ridden a 450 yet but can vouch for the 426's which are great but still have a kick start and can be a bit tempermental if they've been on their side or in water, The 450's should be avaliable on import for about £4300 ish.
