Triumph Bobton
Discussion
As someone requested a thread on my Bobton I thought I’d oblige for those interested.
Back in 2023 I bought a 17 plate bobber with just 3.5k on the clock. I ran it in standard form for a year or so, and it was a great bike to get around on.
Here it is as I bought it.

Whilst perusing eBay one evening I saw a Triumph Thruxton engine for sale at a frankly ridiculously low price, I actually thought it was probably a scam until I spoke with the seller. Anywho I bought it and thought that’ll be a nice power increase for the Bobber, and it’ll give me a project for the winter.
So the Bobton was born. Triumph Bobber, Thruxton R engine, Thruxton R wheels, Speed twin forks and brakes, Ohlins shock and a few other bits n bobs.
This is the engine from eBay, I connected up the ECU and clocks and this engine had 957 miles on it.

I initially tried to use the speed twin wiring loom, switchgear, ECU and instruments, but unfortunately it was beyond my skill level to get everything to work and routed correctly. So I ended up using the stock Bobber set up, but copying and pasting the settings from a Thruxton ECU into the Bobber ECU. The bike runs really well but it’s never been on a dyno or anything.

Before and after

I ran it for a year or so as above, then I decided that it needed a custom spray job.

I also swapped out the exhaust for some hitcocks shorties, cat still in place as I’m not a fan of loud exhausts.

This winter it’s going to get a full Thruxton R front end and some speed twin alloy wheels.

Here’s mocking up the rear end. It’s going to need a few mods to get the rear brake lined up correctly

That’s it for now..

Do you expect the power upgrade to suit the chassis?
A friend has a fairly standard bobber and just loves the power of the original engine for the riding he does.
Yes it’s fine.. with the Ohlins shock and fork internals, and much improved brakes, it’s not really a problem. As with any bobber, the limiting factor is ground clearance. The pegs go down way before any chassis limit is found.A friend has a fairly standard bobber and just loves the power of the original engine for the riding he does.
