Triumph transponder keys (and others)
Discussion
Two of my three bikes have “keyless” start where you have the key on your person and wake the bike up then start it with various buttons.
Apart from a fresh coin battery every year or so the one on my Ducati has been fine.
The one on my 2019 1200 scrambler however seems to kill a decent Duracell every 3-4 months and give random key missing notifications on the screen which has been getting a bit irksome.
Yesterday I did a bit of research and found that the battery terminals on the triumph key are not soldered to the control board but just held there by the outer body of the key
There are a couple of good YouTube vids on how to strip and rebuild the key including cleaning the “floating” contacts.
I followed one of these and tested the key ok with the bike static, the issue only occurred when riding so I’ll update once I’ve taken it for a spin
