I've got a pair of Gore-tex Daytona boots that are due some tlc.

Do you really need the official Daytona products, or can you just use regular boot cleaning/water proofing that can be bought from any shoe repair shop ?

Cheers

Anything Goretex and leather safe will be fine, even just warm soapy water

I'm still using a pot of leather lustre I bought about 15 years ago on my 12 year old Daytona boots.

I highly reccomend the Alt-berg black leather polish and also their leder gris treatment. Brought mine up like new almost when they were well worn indeed.

I said sod it and bought the Daytona stuff. Works, but you wouldn't think it if you saw them right now!

I had a pair of Daytona leather boots and I had an incident whereby the battery got broken on my bike - on the 916 the battery is down on the front, right hand side of the bike alongside the front cylinder and just in front of your right foot.

Right boot got a decent amount of battery acid on it so I washed it as best I could with soap/detergent etc., seemed OK but when I next tried to wear them the boot practically fell apart, it was basically rotten.

OK, so battery acid is a bit extreme but soapy water didn't do too well for me...

I've gone an ordered the Daytona products from Sports Bike Shop.
Not too much more than regular leather care products.

My Daytona boots are now 6 years old and have been used quite expensively in conditions from 30 degrees plus to torrential rain, from 10 hour riding days to walking a few miles at a time. They're still waterproof and still look pretty good. I've always treated them with Dubbin, as I do the rest of my leather - gloves, suit etc.

I've been using Renapur on Daytona boots (not the same pair) for over 20 years and it has kept the leather looking great and water resistant.

I'd say pretty much anything reputable for leather will do the job as it won't get anywhere near the Goretex.

as above

the daytona product smells the same as the renapur just softer as its is a metal tube that prevents all the product from being used

+1 use renapur on all my leather boots, jackets etc. I have found also that a direct application of Nikwax helps keep leather supply while also giving it more resistance
