Yep,you read that rightclap

So it went like this....

Just as I finished stripping the red 1098S and sending the parts out, in comes a message from a guy in Toronto, asking if I'd be interested in his crashed 1098S...
Turns out the bike had a small whoopsie and fell on its right side with the usual damage, top fairing, side panel, upper and lower, right clip on and tail piece. The tank took a small scuff but nothing too major. On the upside, the original magnesium fairing stay is intact as are the headlights, forerunner and other standard parts.
His plan was to find the required bodywork and fix it up but it seems black 1098S panels are like hens teeth and so after waiting around for 9 months he was ready to throw in the towel and walk away.
Now, ordinarily, I'd not interested as I had the parts I wanted from the red 1098S to donate to the 998 however this bike was beyond a little tasty... parts fitted including:
Ohlins FG803 NIX forks that cost $3000US in 2008
Ohlins TTX
Akrapovic Evo3 full titanium system
Nicholson Racing triple clamps
Woodcraft Clip ons
Lightec rearsets
Anatori Quickshifter
Carbon belt covers
Carbon infil panels
Ducati Performance Screen
Ducati Performance Seat
Carbon mudguard
Black 1198 swingarm
Carbon swingarm protection
M&W race air filters
Several sets of track bodywork from his old 848 track bike that he sold to buy this
Ducati bike cover
14k kms
Both keys and all dealer documents.

And....... all the original OEM parts except the suspension.

Plan is to liberate the performance parts and transfer to my other bikes and use the standard red 1098S stuff as well as this bikes OEM parts to turn it back into a standard, mint condition black 1098S.
Add to that I hit a purple patch and found all the bodywork parts I need including tail, right side fairings, nose fairing, even a tank in case the original won't polish out...

Come spring I might move it on to recoup my outlay but for now, I'm looking forward to rebuilding her to pretty much showroom spec except a few carbon pieces. Even the black swingarm is coming out to be replaced by the original alumnium one which is in mint condition.

How she looks now...

In happier times

Thankfully the front axle slider saved the forks and the frame sliders did the same for the chassis, so really, it's just the bodywork. Clip ons will be replaced by the OEM items, same for triple clamp, forks, rear shock, swingarm and exhaust...

Maybe I do have a problem....

But the main question is,how much did you pay for it?

Great idea!
Do you keep a Man-Maths spreadsheet to show Senior Management that you actually make money from this Hobby?

I think if you have the space, time and talent you are doing the right thing. Have you have or considered a youtube channel ?

So all up, just under the equivalent of £5k.
Bodywork parts are on top but a lot of the unfil panels are from the red 1098S so they roll over.
Once done, decent 1088S's are selling in the £8k region so no great profit but a decent return in earned value of premium parts.
Ohlins TTX is worth good money in the US, carbon parts will sell in due course and if the tank won't polish out I'll fit a CF tank protection and use it on my track bike, so selling the current red tank. I've found red bodywork is in good demand due to the 848 & 1198's using the same colour. Black is a bit of a rarity, both in demand and availability.
But really, I kinda like the idea of the restoration of the bike to really clean and original condition., even down to the original (mint) exhaust system and cans.
Another little bonus is the replacement tank has Techspec Snakeskin tank grips which were on the track bikes shopping list so there's $150 saved.... I'll spend that on new belts and oil for the black S hehe

So no, there's absolutely zero chance of turning a profit, but it's a good way to spend winter in my newly heated garage and have some fun tinkering. And then get started with finishing Daisy and the 998
And as for a social media, YT presence, not on your nelly thanks, this place is the extent of my online existence rofl

10 x the price you tell your wife is the usual calculation

And so she is pretty much done.
Panels are back from wet polishing and looking fantabulous...
Full Termignoni 70mm System is fitted and sounds wonderful.
All in all she's a really nice example and I'm having second thoughts about selling her.
