I bought a cbr600rr a few weeks ago. I fancied a new bike that would sit between my 701 svartpilen, so had a bit more weather protection than that, but could be used more than my RSV4. I considered a few bikes from adventure bikes to a zx4rr and test rode quite a few, the zx4rr was a real contender the screaming 4 cylinder was great and I had a lot of fun on the test ride but I thought it might be too one dimensional. I think it's a bike I'll definitely revisit at some point though. I tried an r1300gs on a demo day and really liked it, it felt more like a super naked than an adventure bike to me but one to my spec would be far too much money. Also tried a 890 adventure and was very disappointed, I thought itd be like a duke but it was just boring and I felt like a dweeb on it.

The cbr600rr had taken my fancy when they announced it was returning last year. I've never owned a 600 as they were discontinuing them when I passed my test and I wouldn't want one without a blipper and all the electronics, I think the new model looks great and at £10.5k is good value for money imo. I test rode one in the summer and whilst it wasn't perfect it ticked a lot of boxes. I also fancied a 600 for UK tracks and thought it might save me some money in tyres.

I kept an eye on auto trader and a black one for under 9k was tempting but it hadn't been run in and I much prefer the HRC colours. Then mine came up with just enough of October left to make me think it was now or wait 5 months. It's a 74 plate when most on auto trader were registered in May so a bit longer warranty left. It had just it's first service, came with the service pack, single seat cowl and akrapovic for a nice saving under list so I went for it.

Picked it up and had a 100 mile or so ride back that turned in to 200 miles. I've got used to sports bike riding positions and liked that the bars are a bit higher than the rsv4s so it seemed a bit comfier ok the teat ride and that's mostly the case but I found after 3 hours in the saddle that the seating position crushes my junk so not ideal. I'm looking in to a new seat or air cushion or something to address that. Otherwise it was pretty much as expected, revving it to 15k is great fun, it's fast but not shockingly so, doesn't sound as good in isolation as the street triple I had but the tone on hitting the red line is addictive. I think it's really overgeared for the road, 1st goes to 80ish so I'm going to play around with sprockets. You can feel the lightweight in corners but it's not the most agile on turn in so I'm going to try a 180/60 rear because I'm not impressed by the OEM dunlops, they had a moment on a barely damp road on my way home so I'll change those sooner rather than later. Lack of cruise control is really annoying so I've ordered an AliExpress atlas throttle lock to address that. Apart from that I'm going to try and use it as much as possible.

I'm no longer bendy enough for one of those, but what a stunning bike and bit of a bargain too! Have fun.

Interested to hear how you get on with it on track.

I'm considering one to replace my BMW S1K to see if I enjoy riding a bike to more of it's potential and fearing death less...

Great looking bike, enjoy 👍

The new RR is definitely one I’m considering for next year. Had a 2008 Hannspree rep a few years ago and loved it.

I really like that, its nice as fook! Interesting read too, iv had a zxr400 L9 before now and although i did really enjoy using it inbetween the fireblade/Mille or 955i Daytona - sometimes i started to get a bit tired of the size of it, felt quite small and hunched up and having to wring its neck everywhere - when you jumped onto the fireblade/mille/daytona they felt just much more comfortable even though they are still sports bikes.. A modern 600 is probably the sweet spot!

Happy new bike day. They do look great in those colours. Certainly better than black.

I just could not bend my body to fit on that anymore but it is a cracking looking bike, sure you will have lots of fun with it.

Awesome bike, sounds like you're enjoying it despite the discomfort...

It's interesting that Honda have maintained the same basic approach to the CBR600 across its lifetime: despite the addition of things like ABS and IMU, it's basically just a lightweight race bike with a total screamer of an engine. I found my '01 CBR6 the same i.e. massively over-geared for the road. I made a fairly hefty change but maybe try just going down a tooth on the front. Apologies if teaching you to suck eggs but I found this site really helpful:
