New Tyres for the Speed Twin
Discussion
I've used Michelin PR4 (possibly PR5), Bridgestone T30 Evo, T31, T32, A41. Pirelli Angel ST, GT2. Dunlop Roadsmart 4 and Mutants in recent years.
Absolutely nothing whatsoever comes close to the Mutants for their ability to deal with wet, gravel strewn, leaf covered, muddy roads and still provide the handling/feedback of a sports touring tyre.
I took my Strom to Hayling a while back in torrential rain/summer storm with flooded roads everywhere to try them out. I took the route through Alton and down the backroads from there (small country lanes). The rain was so bad you couldn't really see the road surface.
I kept hearing a plinking sound and couldn't understand what it was. Only when the rain slowed down could I see just how much gravel was covering the road - a lot of which I then realised had been flicking up at my sump guard. This should have been obvious but I simply couldn't feel it.
On ANY of the other tyres I would have felt it and realised it was gravel/mud etc but not on these.
I honestly can't recommend them enough. It's absolutely staggering how well they do in these conditions.
I've got Dunlop Roadsmart 4s on my CBF500 and used them twice on my VFR1200. They're VERY, VERY good but don't give the same ability/confidence on the gravel/mud/leaves.
