A Burgman 400 to be precise. Not a great bargain but a decent price. Lots of history with it. Decent amount spent on service and a few bits in July when MOT was also done. It'll save the V7 having to endure another winter's salt and road ste and be a much more comfortable commuter in the crappy weather. Being delivered Monday so I'll post a pic or two if I don't get totally slagged off in the meantime!

I had one to get me around London it surprised me how good it was.
put a box on the back and i could fit all my gear in there which meant i didn't need to carry a helmet out making it obvious i was sloping off home early!!!!

That's a super bonus! I've had one before and found it great fun, practical and comfortable for my commute - my wife likes the pillion better than the Guzzi too!

The only people slagging it off are gatekeepers and morons. If it's comfy and does the job then you crack on. I've heard good things about them!

I used to commute on a 650GS then move to Majesty 400
dull may be, but way better commuter than any motorcycle.
comfortable seat, storage space under the seat big enough for everything including the fullface.
better rain protection, twist and go

Yeah, I ran a Majesty 400 as well as my normal bike a few years ago. I can’t remember what I was commuting on at the time, I think it may have been a 600 Bandit, but a mate was selling the Majesty at silly money as he wasn't using it. I was just going to tidy it up and flip it.
But I remember picking it up on a cold dark night, when it was pouring down and following the 20 minute ride home I knew I was going to keep it.
For town commuting I don’t think you can beat a Maxi scooter, only thing that came close was my DCT Honda NC750.

I’m a proper lover of scooters, not the retro type either, just as a means of transport. I’ll always prefer riding proper bikes of course but as a mode of transport you can’t beat them, even through the winter months with the right clothing I’d still rather be on a maxi than in the car stuck in traffic!

I really don’t get why they aren’t more popular.

I did this last year but got a Piaggio mp3.

I thought I didn't care what other bikers thought of me. Turns out I do.

It didn't help itself either. Constantly breaking and left me stranded twice.

Buying a scooter for a winter commute makes sense on paper but I swapped it for an nc750. That's dull but it's reliable and easy to work on.

Enjoy the new bike!

That's the same excuse for buying corduroys, hush puppies and diesel, automatic cars

It means you're old or dull by prioritizing comfort or economy over enjoyment - which is reasonable but lets not dress it up as something it's not

The only moron is the person who is commenting on something they have no experience of - I have owned many of them (to sell on) and find them hideous, obviously less hideous than the even slower ones

OP congratulations on embracing middle age wink

When I first moved up north from London I wanted to buy a Vespa but was told by many people not to as they were seen as unmanly etc etc etc.

Really pathetic, uneducated thinking.

You buy the tool for the job. It also wouldn't break down and need weeks sat waiting for parts like a KTM will.

I've always fancied a maxi scoot as a winter commuter but just convinced one would get nicked by gangsta yoofs.

Have you got secure parking at each end of your commute OP?

I have a year old Yamaha XMax 300, it's so good at what I do, I sold my bike as it just wasn't getting used.

It's a great thing to ride, like above, I don't know why they're not more popular in the UK or why there's so much hate for them among other bikers.

Maxi scooters are owned and ridden by the type of guy who would come home to find his wife in bed with another man and not give the bloke a bloody good kicking.

There, I've said my piece.

As already said I'm surprised they're not more popular and definitely more comfy for commuting than at least the bikes I ride normally

Sold mine now but had a suzuki ux125. Would do a genuine 70mph GPS and happily fit at 65. Great on fuel and just got about everywhere quick and cheap

I was given one, early carb model
I wasn't a fan, I had a ntv650 at the same time.

Mine must have been a Friday afternoon special, it was that bad at starting I used to keep jump leads and a spare battery in the boot, one night I got to Brum new st at around 0100 (I commuted to London) and it wouldn't start, luckily there were some p way staff around and they helped me with a jump start.

Then it go killed, on the train back to Brum, it was parked at a odd angle, not unusual as I had to park on the road so bike's got messed with, hence £700 heaps.
There was a note from the cops on it, seems a suspected drunk driver had drove over it and driven off.
Riding home wasn't fun as it was all out of shape and the funny thing was that I had to ride it again that evening as two trains in a row were cancelled from the local station

I had a very pale pink custom Vespa for a year winkwink, one of the best scooter to ride in town, fast enough and very nimble. my only complain was how small the underseat storage and a top box ruin the retro look

I often ride my wife's PCX125 if I'm going into Reading. It's not heavy, fits through any gap, dirt cheap to run, faster away from lights than the cars, and I've found it also makes you ride like a Deliveroo lunatic. Great fun.

That’s another good point, they are fun, in a completely different way to a full fat bike.
