Fireblade, s1000rr or something else? £5k budget
Discussion
Quick backstory - had a lot of 1000 bikes, mainly aprillias and Fireblades.
Decided I wanted to slow down a bit so got into vintage bsa and triumphs, but they weren’t for me.
So I have £5k to spend, could stretch a little more but don’t really want to.
Should get me a nice gen1 s1000rr, possible early gen2 or 2010 cbr with the abs.
Never owned a Ducati but ridden a couple and didn’t bother me, so 848’s are in budget.
Never felt comfy on my r1 and never tried a ninja.

I'd avoid an ABS blade around that era. Apparently a bh to bleed. Decided I wanted to slow down a bit so got into vintage bsa and triumphs, but they weren’t for me.

Why go from one full extreme to the other? There are as lot of awesome bikes in the middle ground in between a vintage BSA and a Fireblade!
Indeed.A £5k budget buys you a whole range of stuff.
But many of these bikes will be 10 years old or more,so a lot is about the condition of the individual bike.
And a lot is about what you want, what size and shape you are and what riding you hope to do.
I was going to suggest a 675 the last of the first gen ones similar to mines.

Why the heck are they (relatively) pricey now? Is is it now deemed a classic? It's had 5 owners.https://www.autotrader.co.uk/bike-details/20240828...

Maybe with the way things are going all sportsbikes will soon be classics.

With £5k I’d get a 2005/6 Gsxr 1000 or 2004/5 zx10.
There are a few part supply issues on the Zx that might cause a problem though.
Even when I first got into bikes around 2009/2010 I was hearing that the K5/K6 era GSXR was "the one to have" and it seems it is still held in high regard today. What's so good about it? Is it just a value for money ratio now? I never got to try one to find out. There are a few part supply issues on the Zx that might cause a problem though.

Thanks Trickywoo. I've not seen that video.
Ii like the look of the GSX-S bikes that have the K5 engine.
It's like the SV650 in that how much of the K5/K6 legend is due to the motor?
If you can stretch to 6.5k you can get a GSX-S under 4 years old? By all accounts I hear that that's a lot of bike for the money.Ii like the look of the GSX-S bikes that have the K5 engine.

I think he goes from the K5 motor to how comfy he finds it:
