I love the 1050 Speed Triple but it feels heavy and doesn't want to turn

The Street Triple 675 is light but the way it delivers its power encourages it to be thrashed and I prefer more torque

I've never ridden either the MT-09 nor the XSR900. I'm aware of the suspension limitations so I'm looking at ones with aftermarket K Tech or similar modifications

I like the feel of a supermoto which is how the MT09 is described, but people say the XSR900 rides differently, is that just the longer swing arm ?

I've seen a very modified XSR900 for sale but it's 3 hours away so I only want to view it, if I'm going to buy it

Looks wise the MT09 looks cheap (which it is) the xsr900 looks a bit contrived

Budget circa £5k as it's just another toy and with revised suspension there doesn't seem much point spending more

Or should I try the 765 Street Triple?

Which year?

The 2016-2021 has the same chassis and swingarm as the MT-09
The 2022 onwards has the longer swingarm shared with the TRACER.

The old CP3s are a bit wild, some head shake, and a bit vague in the front end, but a lot of fun.
The 2016 XSR has a slightly lower handlebar and rearward hip point vs the MT, so it's down to your taste on how it feels.

Best thing you can do is, as you noted, improve the suspension.
I think it's 2018 onwards, you can fit an Up-QSS from Yamaha, otherwise an aftermarket one is possible.

I preferred the looks of the MT09.

Got insurance quotes.

Settled on an XSR900 as much cheaper to insure. Wasn't keen on the weird hump pillion seat but it's massively grown on me.

Was concerned about comfort as lots of online complaints about the XSR900 seat but I've found it to be fine (although I'm 5ft 8" and 9 stone odd).

Either bike is a great do it all bike (on paved roads). I popped a 10 quid AliExpress windscreen on and now it's acceptable on the motorway (particularly with the cruise control.) Absolute riot in the twisties. Happy to pootle about town.

If buying new note I picked up the last model year brand new but unregistered at a significant discount.

The 2018-21 MT09 handles like a sack of st at anything over 7/10ths, its unstable and an absolute liability, I had the 'SP' version and it was laughable how bad it was for a brand new modern bike, it was properly set up as far as its suspension would allow and I'm just an average size/weight rider.

There's a couple on here who witnessed just how bad it was a few times, in comparison my Street Triple was rock solid right up to its limits.

Both bikes I'm considering have K Tech inserts in the forks and replacement rear shocks

you surprise me - mine (after a fair bit of tweaking) handles like it's on rails - suspension setup maybe?

Rode a 765RS back to back with a MT09SP - bought the Triumph.

Suspension just felt decent quality, quite fompliant but well damped. Grunty too for a small bike (that's nearly 800cc!!).

Downside was the steeply angled seat and silly TFT display.

It was a 2nd bike for me but I'd be happy with one as an only bike.

Most of the reviews say similar

Mine was the R, I set it to full soft and it was still too stiff
