I’ve just got slightly carried away on an eBay auction tonight and bought a stolen/recovered 2008 Triumph Street Triple. It’s a bit of a gamble as it comes without keys but the only damage appears to be the ignition switch. I paid £1360, which is maybe £200-300 more than I had hoped. but I owned a new one back in 2009 and loved it (especially in black). It was MOTd a few months ago and has done 24k.

I recently sold my 2009 BMW 650 XCountry for £3k, which I thought was a good price, but I’m really missing not having a bike. My plan was to buy a newer Speed Triple or 1200 Monster, but we have just decided to put our house on the market to buy a plot of land/project so this is probably the best I can do without my OH getting annoyed.

I now need to get it back from Yately (new Blackbushe) to Edinburgh - any recommendations grateful received. I love the idea of an adventure but hiring a van and fuel would be more than getting it delivered (I think).

When you got 'carried away' you obviously weren't considering the practicalities of collecting it if you won the auction so think you're stuck with the option of hiring a van, paying a bike delivery company, or 'mate with a van'.
If the sellers obliging he could leave it at local bike shop for them to fit new ignition and you collect later but it's a lot of faffing about.

I am a sucker for under seat exhausts even if it put lots of mass up high.

The plot of land, self build project sounds as if it could be a lot of drama and stress, or that's just the way they storyboard such things for TV, so having a bike as a mental well being, get away from it all for an hour or so as a stress release valve could work and potentially be a relationship saver.

You could always get your OH a present like a new lid that may help acknowledge your impulsive purchase.

Word to the wise here, buying a project (ish) bike will mean you won't get to ride it as much as you like and she'll get (very) annoyed with you spending all your time fixing it up......

I have experience of this....

Is this just a matter of a new ignition switch or is the switch tied in with the electronics?
