Hi all,

Currently looking to switch from my 790 duke to something new.

I've narrowed the shortlist down to a new CBR600, Speed Triple 1050 or a Tuono v4 factory.

I know there's a fair amount of users on here who currently have Tuonos (or have had multiple).

The question to you all is, what year would you consider the best all things considered? price/reliability etc?

To caveat, I would like the Tuono to have cruise control so would have to be 17+ onwards.

I have been looking out for 2017 - 2019 models, but should I also be considering 2020s etc? From reading this forum, the newest-shaped model seems to have more issues.

Thanks!

I put my money in a 2017 as it had the digi dash and all the features I wanted, but didn't have the electronic suspension (I wanted to adjust my own suspension to learn how it affected handling).

I absolutely love it. The difference from the 15-16 Factories is massive.

And just because I can, a picture of mine.

Thanks Krikkit. Yours looks beautiful - 17 plate superpole colourway is probably my favourite.

How long have you had it? Any minor/major issues?

I went 2019 as I wanted the Ohlins EC2 and I wanted the red wheels which the 2020 doesn’t have.

I think the latest shape looks better but maybe a touch less reliable?

Only since the start of May, zero unexpected issues (I bought it knowing the front fork seals needed doing)

I bought a 2020 a few weeks ago, done about 500 miles so can't comment on long term issues but it's very good. I do wish the seat was longer though as I'm tall and like to move about more when 'getting a move on'.

I cant really add much as I've only owned my Dads for a week or so. But personally I'd get the electric suspension model, its fking awesome just pulling in and changing it at the side of the road with a touch of a button, although I do prefer the older colour scheme.

If there's one thing I can add, it'll piss all over the 790.

Oh it should also be said, you can manually adjust the EC2 so it acts exactly the same as regular non electronic suspension, you just do it through the screen rather than with a screwdriver. The active modes are great and on track it’s nice to dial up the brake support or steering damper or whatever when you’re not a suspension guru!

Realistically there’s not much reason to not want the EC2!

I still find myself looking at getting one of these. They do tick many boxes and I do fit on one.

This one for the money.

17-18 very good just misses the electronic suspension

19 though like this picture is an excellent bike for the money

21+ my current one is the best of the bunch... But not much vs the 19 which I also had

I do a lot of miles too!

Can’t comment on which year is the sweet spot. But I did join the PH Tuono V4 club on Saturday.

I’ve test ride a load of bikes. The Aprilia won in the end. I put a deposit on it. It’s been lowered atm, but will be back to standard when I collect.

The dash & settings are confusing as hell. Managed to work it out apart from it always saying RACE on the right side of the dash. What’s that about?

The dash and settings are very simple and intuitive once you get in to them, you will figure it out pretty quickly.

The Race light just means it has the Aprilia race map on to complement the Akra exhaust.

Oh Hahaa, that’s good to know. Thanks. That added to the confusion when trying to understand the settings. I think someone had customized all the modes as well. Once I worked out how to set them all the default it made more sense.

The electronic suspension is very cool. I had it the default level 3 setting, which is pretty soft. So very comfortable and plush. But did nose dive on the brakes. Which then changed brake support to 2 & had lots of support under braking. Don’t know how it does that, amazing technology.

So to the OP, the electronic suspension is very good to have.

Thank you all and sorry for the radio silence, had horrendous man flu so probably missed the final opportunity to find a new bike to enjoy this side of the new year cry

I'm focusing on finding a 2019 model then (or 2020 and at a stretch the newer shape maybe if no 19/20 plates show up any time soon).

A 19 plate did crop up on autotrader yesterday at a Norton dealer relatively close but the advert is poor (which always gives me immediate concerns if they can't even be bothered to put some effort in to that) and the titanium Akra exhaust doesn't look as good as the carbon one IMO. Might be worth going to have a look over it though.

Sorry to be that guy and ask this, and sorry to hijack a thread but can anyone tell me the oil to use for a 2020, 5w30 or 10w50. The previous garage seems to have used both, doubt it'll make any difference.

It used to be 5w40 but they changed it to 10w50.
