Off for a few weeks to Spain and Portugal in a few weeks and looking for a recommendation for a decent euro breakdown insurance

Bike is 8 years old if that makes any difference

Many thanks

I went with Emergency Assist LTD, but thankfully never had to use it. Extremely cheap.

I've used these for the past few years

Current policy covers us both (personal cover) for anything we drive (bike or cars), anywhere in Europe for about £75 pa. Caveat is a £30 excess anytime they are used.

Topical topic for me as I've recently had a bike recovered from Spain and it was damaged in transit. I was told tonight that the AA have a clause that states any transit damage must be claimed from your own insurance. That would have probably given me a stroke from rage.

Surely then your unsurer would pursue who caused the damage?

It'd pay to photo said bike all round though before transit.

MANDATORY!

I have no idea how the process would then work for the AA, but I was surprised by the comment.

In my case the bike had to be recovered twice in Spain by BMW Roadside Assistance, the second time for repatriation. I took pictures of all around the bike the first time, but the second driver took pictures before loading, and was so good, I didn't bother. I regretted that immensely once I realised that BMW subcontract the work to Allianz, an insurance company, The process was quite slow, and had I not just purchased the bike it could've been slower and with more of a fight. In fairness it' seems to have worked out alright, but it's been a stressful couple of months. If I'd taken pictures the second time I would've been in possession of the evidence and had one less thing to stress about.

ETA: The difference for me in comparison to AA recovery is I don't have a claim history for the incident. I'd been kicking myself a bit for not having RAC cover until then.
