I'm noticing a juddering/snatch on my CBF500 when accelerating hard in 1st. Not so noticeable in the other gears or if I'm REALLY smooth with the clutch.

It's almost as if when it's 3/4 the way through engaging it snaps tension/engages fully - you can feel it in the rear wheel.

Its not slipping snd the wheel isn't spinning up.

The chain and sprockets have less than 1500 miles on them and the problem was there prior.

Adjusting tension makes no difference.

Clutch itself was changed circa 15,000 miles ago. I've tried adjusting it via the cable and still the same issue.

No other issues with changing.

It has the notorious CB500 clutch basket rattle. Just about to hit 80k miles.

Any ideas? It's more annoying than anything.

Could it be the cush drive?

I'd say it sounds like it, especially on 80k

I did try and jiggle the hub carrier around a bit. Got maybe 4 or 5mm movement on it by hand?

Cush drive rubbers have had it, especially with 80k on the clock.
Sprocket carrier should be snug in the hub, no play by hand. So 4 or 5mm movement is definitely not good.

Thanks.

Couldn't find any references to a service limit so that must be it.

Looks like I'll have to pack it as no longer available....

Plenty of new ones listed on eBay assuming yours is a 2004-2008 bike?

https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_t...

And a few lightly used sprocket carriers with them too, should be able to make something work

Can't find any new ones unfortunately.

Getting bloody annoying finding specific parts for this now. Managed to source a centrestand for £30 last week but all the springs are unavailable.

Hearing I can pack out the space with innertube or aluminium plate if I can't get a set to work?

I was convinced it was the clutch as I've never had an issue with cush drives before......

Could this be a notched clutch basket ?
Is a Cush drive is more obvious when going on and off the throttle with the clutch fully engaged ?

Give us your year etc, maybe our google fu is luckier today!

Alternatively you could pack it out, or cast a new one with poly resin - you can buy PU resin pretty cheaply and it'd be an easy enough job

It is quite snatchy on the throttle I will say. It just feels as though it's coming from the rear and almost akin to chain tightening it's tension.

Oh. Maybe it's compatible? Might be worth trying even if you have to return it.

Put it in gear and rocked it back and forth. Reasonable amount of movement there.

David Silvers confirmed they added the wrong info on that one - it's for the 600.

Managed to find another set on ebay secondhand that look OK......
