As per the title really, I bought a 530 chain instead of a 525 for a 2023 model CB1000R having read the wrong stuff on the Internet.

Will it do any damage to the sprockets to fit the 530?

Many thanks in advance for putting me right on my mechanical ignorance.

If your current sprockets are 525, then you need a 525 chain. A 530 chain will require 530 sprockets.

As above, not really.
The 525 number refers to the width of the internal sprocket holes so with a 530 being wider than a 525, the chain will slop around on the sprockets and possibly jump or hit other things due to the excessive lateral movement.
Can't you return it for the correct item?

If you were proper PH, you would build up the thickness of the existing sprockets with weld, turn them down to the correct thickness on a lathe and finish by hand-filing the edges of the teeth.

Alternatively, return the chain and get the correct size.

My previous KTM had a worn out chain. Lateral movement became so bad it actually left some sawtooth like marks on the side wall of the rear tyre!
Definitely get the correct sprocket/chain combo & replace sprockets at the same time as the chain.
