I've been trying to get hold of Dunlop Mutants to replace the utter dogst A41s on my Strom. My preferred local place couldn't source them so I tried a place in Guildford who could fit them for £340 (inc vat) to the bike. A few other places were around the £360 mark (again, fully fitted inc VAT).

  • Then alone comes this other local place that want £440!
Since when have tyres gone over the £400 mark? It can't just be me who thinks this price is utter lunacy?

For reference this is a well established, long running business near Wokingham. They were always more expensive than my preferred place in Reading but I was trying to avoid the trek to Guildford.....

I pay about £440 a set of V02's, appears to be about the going rate...

I can't remember paying more than £350 ish fitted for T32s, Roadsmart 4s or Angel GT2s prior. Maybe it is the going rate in some places but I almost fell off the chair at being quoted so much more.

I paid £300 for a pair of Bridgestone BT46 fitted to my Street Twin a couple of months ago, ride bike into workshop, go get a coffee, then ride out 45mins later, all done. I don't think that is a bad price, the only way you are going to get them cheaper is fitting them yourself and for most people that is not worth the time and money spent on equipment to do the tyre change properly and safely once or twice a year.

It’s everything! it lunacy!!

I went to buy a pair of enduro gloves the other day, they’re just real light weight fabric ones, last time I bought some they were £44.99, I went to the shop, picked out the same ones and got asked for £74.99, no that must be a mistake? They checked and nope, they’re now £30 more expensive!!

Wanted Pilot Road 6's for mine but the cost was eye-watering.

Settled on PR5's in the end.

Being the utter moron that I am and still in a state of shock at the price I should edit this....

I was OK with rhe £340 price.

It was the place in Wokingham that quoted me £440 and change for them...... They've always been more expensive and I was trying to avoid the Guildford trip but Christ alive £440 is mad.

The cost of tyres has gone crazy recently.
I'll be needing a new rear tyre soon, I'm not expecting any change out of £150 and that's for a fitted to loose wheel. It won’t be this years favourite either, they are pushing £200.
It's over £80 for me scooter, and those small wheels means the tyres don't last as long either because of the whole PiD thing.

Just checked for M9RR - £350 a pair delivered. These were £280 pair fitted just a few years ago.

Tyre prices have hugely increased, and another problem now seems to be that nobody wants to fit to a loose wheel for a tenner anymore, as they then can’t warrant the work - what’s that all about?

My local fitting places now all now say they can’t balance a wheel with weights and insist on adding balancing beads to the tyre and charging £80. Almost like they’ve agreed to do this between themselves to relieve people of more cash . . .

the Ukraine war and carbon black shortage will be a good excuse for further increase in tyre cost, in excess of the high inflation
experienced in recent years frown

Just putting Pilot Sport 6 on my bike this year, I paid more for a rear than what I was getting a pair of PS4 for a few years back...

I'm assuming you've tried Ride-In tyres in Reading?

Mark there is a decent chap and always charges a reasonable price.

Are these an unusual size, restricting supply and therefore price?

Yeah he's always my first port of call but can't source the Mutants.

I used to use GS years ago but since they've started to massively take the piss with pricing I won't even bother after this week's latest attempt. I can't see how they justify £440

What's more is that you'll spend that money on tyres yet only Michelin will authorise puncture repairs on their tyres. The other manufacturers won't.

I get my bike serviced at BMW because I must be a moron. It needed tyres and they quoted £420 just for the Angel GTs that were already on there. Had to say I'll do it another time. Got Road 5s fitted, whole bike, for £350 at a smaller place.

I had a puncture on the way to my first service on the Speed Twin a couple of months ago.

They couldn't repair it as there were two holes right next to eachother.

Had no choice really but to get them to change the tyre whilst doing the service.

They relieved me of £200 just for the tyre. I thought that I had been ripped of, as usual, by the dealer. Seems on reading this, the cost is now quite usual.
