Fitting a new exhaust to a Street Triple 765 Rs and dropped a bolt in the exhaust. Followed down by a magnet on a string and you can figure the rest....

Does anyone know of a good bike shop/fabricator/problem solver anywhere in central West London please that they can recommend?

Thanks!

Why not just take the exhaust back off again and the bolt will just fall out as you take it apart.
Either that or turn the bike upside down and give it a good shake.

This.

The magnet and broken bit of string that you have undoubtedly lost as well won't cause any harm; the string will burn away, the magnet will slowly corrode, break up and be spat out of the back.

Is this like the story of the old lady who swallowed a spider to catch a fly?
Do you have a really pwerful vacuum? Or an electricians rod set, use the thinner more flexible rod with a steel hook. Or go oldskool and a wire coat hanger?

Fire it up, give it a big rev…maybe move any breakables from behind the bike…

Yeah the funny thing was watching a fitting video on YouTube the guy did exactly the same thing and dropped a bolt down there too as its so fiddly to fit.
Trust me this won't shake out, I need someone with a boreoscope

Are you absolutely sure it went down the exhaust? I have a friend who had a 1098 at the time and he took his end cans off to swap his trackday body over and in the process claimed to have dropped a bolt down one of the exhausts. He ran me to help retrieve it, he did similar to you magnet/string but it just stuck to the pipes. Eventually I spotted it wedged in the bottom of the shock.......

However, my plan was to get a hessian bag and put it over the exposed pipes and basically rev the thing.

NeodymiumMagnet.

Visualise where the bolt has fallen to.

Place magnet on the outside of the exhaust.

Slide towards the header opening.

Retrieve both.

Have a beer/coffee.

The good news is that the bolt and other parts will be stopped by the catalytic converter (assuming that it is still there!). You might be wise to call out a mobile mechanic who can help you take the exhaust off and retrieve the items, unless you want to have a go yourself (it's potentially not too difficult, but if the bolts are seized then it might require some work to free them up or to drill them out).

Depending on where you are in West London, you might want to try giving Stewart of Stewarts Motorcycles a call. https://www.stewarts-motorcycles.co.uk/

Personally I'd just buy another bolt - it won't do much in there

If you want to buy a bore scope to have a look, I bought one off ebay for sub £10 and it's really good, just plugs into your phone

Get one of those wire phone cameras off of amazon and a "mechanical grabber".

It's probably caught in the Cat somewhere.

A usb bore scope taped to a flexible pick up tool will get it, I've retrieved much harder things this way.

Borrow a cheap borescope and remove it. Easy.

I've ordered a boroscope but now going on holiday for a week with the old exhaust on.

Trust me this isn't as easy as everyone thinks, i'm over 3 hours on this now and bought 3 different tools

Have you tried starting her up and giving it a few big handfuls of revs yet?

In 3hrs you could have had it down to a bare rolling chassis!

There's a joke to be made about calling a vet if I could be bothered... hehe

And the lesson learned is never to use anything without a large base as a butt-plug.
