I work in the centre of Bath and often use the 'bike to commute in. I can currently park in any of the metered or resident only bays for free which in this City, is a dream! I'm not alone and the number of motorbikes being parked up during the day is certainly increasing. (So are the number getting nicked but that's another story!)

A parking consultation is currently underway by the Council which includes the possibility of emissions based charging to park, just as they do currently with cars. I don't have any issue with paying to park and realise it's currently a great deal but that seems a bit of a draconian idea especially as my pair of 1200's would get charged like an old diesel Discovery!

I'm curious as to what happens elsewhere, if anyone is being subjected to 'bike parking charges on street and on what basis are they made?

Thanks in advance and apologies for the REALLY boring question!

I've just received a notification from Camden council that they will start charging motorcycle parking which has until now been free...

Unfortunately, I think that ALL councils are going to go down this route.

I'll be honest, I wouldn't have even considered that bikes get cheaper / free parking in city centers.
Idiot over here would just buy a ticket like normal and stick it to my bike

Imagine the uproar if this was introduced in any other European city!
