Over the past few years I have owned several bikes, some quite different in a few ways.
The last batch, was an FJR, then a Triumph Thunderbird 900, a Honda CB550-4 and now a Triumph Trophy SE.

I thought the wife would like to do some touring as she has in the past but............her interest is dwindling if not all gone, (we are now both mid 60's).
The majority of the riding is me, alone having a ride out for maybe a coupla hours, nice A roads between Devon and Cornwall and along the coasts of both, north and south.

The Trophy is BIG...tall and heavy. The FJR was heavy but not as tall. I do like the power of the bigger bikes and the full fairings.

So maybe the Trophy is now not being used as it should so time to get something thats better suited to what I mostly do.

Big bike, full fairing...ish...comfortable for my old fat ass. I have a bad back so a crotch rocket of any kind is out.....but I dont hang about...cant stand following cars...(do that IN a car)....

Thoughts ....Trophies worth £6k trade in....

I am NOT a HD rider/cruiser in any way shape or form

NOT looking to replace the Trophy with another Trophy look a like or similar bikes... Like GOLDWINGS or PANS etc..........

In the time honoured way of BB, I propose my own bike.

GSX-S1000F

Quick enough, all day comfy for a fat short bloke.

Pillion seat is rudimentary though.

GSXS is a bit like a Fast, light VFR.

Old mans sportsbike smile

I've considered the Tiger, but after buying a GS few years back, realised they are probably not for me.

I liked the VFR when they came out and various models since but by then I had an operation on both wrists so anything leaning forward was out...

Which is basically anything like the VFR or GSX!

Sounds like you're looking for something touring style. Have you considered something along the lines of Goldwing or a GS? I know they're sort of default options but they're that way for a reason. Perhaps the Honda Pan for something cheaper.

The GSX-S1000F comes from the factory with Renthal high bars:

It seems Suzuki intended it to be for superannuated GSXR riders who wanted a real world riding position.

They appeal to me but it seems the headlamp performance is nothing special.

I am not sure where you'd use the performance on offer in Devon and Cornwall.

How much do you want to add?

First thought was a bmw s1000xr but you’d need to add 2k for a cheap one and the seat is pretty high.

Sounds like R1200RT is an answer: full fairing, upright riding position, good bit lighter than the Trophy and the weight is lower. Easy on fuel, nimble for its size and can get a move on when you want.

Not a bad looking bike. Are the seats comfy or do they have about 1 mm of foam! Do they compare well with bikes like the Tiger I put in above? Money wise...Thats not a worry, trade for my Trophy maybe £4.5k......

This was going to be my suggestion. Never ridden one, but have done quite a few miles on hired GS's. The low down weight of the engine is very noticeable, much preferred it to the Multistrada I was riding at the time.

Seems a more modern sort of FJR that I had around 5 years ago maybe??
Its going backwards towards touring which I am just not doing anymore. Nice bike and all etc but.........5 years ago but maybe not now.
I am wondering if I should go completely different to a style of bike I have never had before.

I am not going to do long distances anymore as the boss has lost her biking mojo....(she loves our SLK)...So its an hour here and there, 50 to 100 miles max.

The Triumph Tiger 800 or 1200 XRT................>?

Tracer 9GT.

I had a test ride on one and liked it. Unfortunately my OH didn’t like the pillion much.

But solo it was great.

I've been thinking of the Moto Guzzi V100 Mandello. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mSfPWLiO9wY

https://www.bennetts.co.uk/bikesocial/news-and-vie...

Lower power than my KTM but lots of low down torque, which is what I like about the KTM, although I'll miss the power. But the S is well equipped and also has Ohlins semi-active suspension. Every review I've read or seen is very positive. I don't think there is a direct competitor.

The only downside so far is the dedicated panniers are very wide, I don't need that much space for even a couple of weeks, but there are plenty of soft luggage options.

As I'm not a fan of adventure bikes then I'd suggest a BMW R1200RT, or better still a R1250RT, is probably the best answer, although it is quite close to the Trophy in purpose and approach.

If you're interested in something a little more sporty in delivery then the KTM SD1290GT delivers with a reasonably upright riding position thus, virtually no wrist weight.

Beyond that, you're looking at the adventure bikes, of which there is a huge choice.

PS - All of this is based on the assumption you'd still like to tour, even if solo.

I currently ride a GSXR1000 so this may be for me in the future. Many thanks for you and conkerman taking the time to reply with well reasoned suggestions.
